The substance of Scott County\u2019s baseball season will be weighed by how the Cardinals fare in the 42nd District, which launches its schedule on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

One thing is certain: SC owned the traditional powers of the neighboring 43rd, as evidenced by a clean sweep this past week.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Scott County took down its highest-ranked opponent to date Friday, cruising to a 5-1 victory over No. 7 Lexington Catholic at Joseph K. Ford Stadium.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Defeating the Knights in their manor is no special benchmark at this point: The Cardinals have accomplished that feat in four of the past five seasons.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
How it was done is the impressive piece of the equation. SC (7-1) scored one-run verdicts over Lexington Catholic (4-3) in 2022 and 2024 and topped the Knights in eight innings last season.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
SC never trailed, took the lead for good in the top of the third inning, and pushed a run across the plate in every frame except the second and fourth.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Duncan Stevens smashed a home run in his third consecutive game for Scott County. The clout gives the junior catcher four on the spring, matching the Cards\u2019 most for an entire season since 2022, when Jacob Blair also launched four out of the yard.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Stevens was 3-for-4 to lead the Cardinals\u2019 13-hit attack. Will Rose, Garrett Sparks and Colt Fields also were repeat offenders and combined for SC\u2019s other four RBI.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sparks delivered a double and two stolen bases, boosting his efficiency in the latter category to a spotless 15-for-15.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Carson Murray, Keagan Hurt, Tyler Wands and Austin Davis rounded out the roll call of hits for the Cardinals, who propelled the team batting average to .332, 87 points ahead of their 2025 clip.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Jacob Skinner spun a strong 4 2\/3 innings on the mound to pick up the second win of his sophomore season. He allowed five hits and struck out five to offset three walks.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Fields continued his season-long shutout streak to notch the save. He recorded the final seven outs without allowing a hit. The senior struck out three and walked two.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Scott County completed a run of four wins in five days that also included a road victory at Woodford County.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Cards have won seven of their first eight games for the first time since 2017, when they won the second of back-to-back 11th Region championships and advanced to the KHSAA quarterfinals.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Brady Wasik was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk for Lexington Catholic, whose bid for a third consecutive region title ended against Sayre in the championship round a year ago.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
John Crandall cracked a double, and Bennie Lawrence and Jake Scott supplied singles to round out the Knights\u2019 attack.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
SC hosted George Rogers Clark after press time Monday before its opening district series against Frederick Douglass; home Tuesday, away Wednesday, both at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
