Amid the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>\u2019 fast start to the 2026 season, the defending AL champions made a trade with the Miami Marlins<\/a> on Sunday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Blue Jays swapping infielder Leo Jimenez for infielder Dub Gleed has people reacting. Toronto also\u00a0acquired\u00a0a $250,000 international signing bonus pool space, which is for international amateur free agents.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou might recall Dub Gleed from breaking his bat on a no-contact check swing fame,\u201d the Minor League Baseball\u00a0social media team posted<\/a>\u00a0via X.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gleed\u2019s bat broke apart, and the barrel went careening into the infield. He \u201cplayed at four levels last season\u201d in the minors,\u00a0MLB Pipeline noted<\/a>, which included time in\u00a0AAA\u00a0ball.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the Toronto Blue Jays get is Dubs,\u201d one user wrote\u00a0via X<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

To the user’s point, the Blue Jays saw promise in Jimenez. The Blue Jays signed him in 2017. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cLeo Jimenez is a 24-year-old 2B and SS. Limited to just 44 total games last year. 63 MLB<\/a> games in 2024; .229\/.329\/.358,\u201d one user\u00a0noted via X<\/a>. \u201cWas once graded Toronto\u2019s #5 prospect.\u00a0For-average\u00a0bat\u00a0with plus\u00a0defensive tools up the middle. A 40-man spot will need to be cleared for him.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

It comes as a surprise to one user. The Blue Jays have a contending roster, and Jimenez was a small part of that last year when the team made the World Series \u2014\u00a0albeit a small part of it.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a weird alternate universe where the 2026 Blue Jays have Leo Jim\u00e9nez and Otto L\u00f3pez as their middle infielders,\u201d the user\u00a0wrote via X<\/a>. \u201cThat universe doesn\u2019t include an American League pennant, as much as I like both players.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lopez played for the Blue Jays from 2021 to 2022, but he landed back in the minor leagues in 2023. Toronto traded Lopez to the San Francisco Giants in 2024, and the Marlins claimed Lopez that year after the Giants waived him.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now, Lopez and Jimenez could team up in Miami instead of Toronto, as the user alluded to.<\/p>\n
