But his first Orioles roundtripper had some extra New York flavor to it.<\/p>\n
Alonso smacked a solo homer to left-center field in the fourth inning of the Orioles\u2019 8-5 loss to the Rangers on Tuesday night at Camden Yards off his former Mets teammate and current Texas right-hander, Jacob deGrom.<\/p>\n
The five-time All-Star turned on a low-and-inside fastball \u2014 which came in at 96.5 mph \u2014 from deGrom and sent it out 400 feet with a 99.1 mph exit velocity.<\/p>\n

The blast marked Alonso\u2019s first extra-base hit with Baltimore, with his first five hits to start the 2026 season all coming as singles.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s one of the best to ever do it. And yeah, I\u2019m just really, really pleased that today was my day,\u201d Alonso, who finished the night 2-for-4, said after the loss, per MLB.com<\/a>. \u201cBut I know that most days, not as fortunate. Again, he\u2019s one of the best to do it. I\u2019m happy it went in my favor today.\u201d<\/p>\n Earlier in the game, the two former Mets had a comical moment when Alonso reached base with a base knock. Instead of firing a payoff pitch to Adley Rutschman, deGrom \u2014 even with first baseman Jake Burger holding the bag \u2014 tried to pick Alonso off.<\/p>\n All Alonso could do was throw his hands up in disbelief and smile.<\/p>\n Tuesday marked deGrom\u2019s first start of the year after he was scratched from his weekend outing against the Phillies due to neck stiffness<\/a>.<\/p>\n Alonso, the Mets\u2019 all-time home run leader, left the Amazin\u2019s in free agency for a five-year, $155 million contract<\/a>, three years after deGrom left for Texas on his own five-year deal worth $185 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n The first baseman, after his first Orioles Opening Day, said the game was all he had hoped for.<\/p>\n![\"Texas](\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/2268705101.jpg\")
