Essentially, anything less than a World Series title is a failure.

As always, there will be a handful of arms available, but making the right move could surge the club into a deep postseason run. What the Mets won’t do is make a trade just for the sake of making one.

However, Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Still, his three-year, $67 million contract with the A’s is the largest guaranteed deal in franchise history.

Severino is a likely trade candidate, and Rymer lists the Mets, Atlanta Braves, and Toronto Blue Jays as three clubs who could use his services.

“Severino’s surplus value suggests he isn’t worth what he’s being paid, and there is some truth to that. His strikeout rate deteriorated to only 6.9 per nine innings,” wrote Rymer.

“His stuff is still good, though, and two splits from 2025 make him look salvageable: a 3.02 ERA away from Sacramento, and a 3.10 ERA in the second half.”

Now 32, Severino has plenty of big-game pitching experience, mostly during his eight years with the New York Yankees. That could be valuable for the Mets down the stretch, but manager Carlos Mendoza could also consider using Jonah Tong or Christian Scott instead.

More MLB news:

There could be discussions and rumors about making starting rotation upgrades for the New York Mets come August. …

[2396
5,101,4,1690,61,2548,4203
0":"post-656934","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-new-york-mets","8":"tag-baseball","9":"tag-mets","10":"tag-mlb","11":"tag-new-york","12":"tag-new-york-mets","13":"tag-newyork","14":"tag-newyorkmets
["GET
