On this day 15 years ago, Buck made his presence felt in his Marlins debut.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Marlins and New York Mets were scoreless through three and a half innings on opening day at Sun Life Stadium on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/boxes\/FLO\/FLO201104010.shtml\" rel=\"external nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">April 1, 2011<\/a>. That changed with one swing of the bat from Buck as the Marlins went on to collect a 6-2 victory.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Marlins had gone in order in the second and third innings against New York starter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/pelfrmi01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=fishonfirst.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-04-01_br\" rel=\"external nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Pelfrey<\/a>, but after Hanley\u00a0Ram\u00edrez flew out to open the bottom of the fourth, walks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/stantmi03.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=fishonfirst.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-04-01_br\" rel=\"external nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Giancarlo Stanton<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=morris005log,morris004log&amp;search=Logan+Morris&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=fishonfirst.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-04-01_br\" rel=\"external nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Logan Morris<\/a> bookended a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sanchga01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=fishonfirst.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-04-01_br\" rel=\"external nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gaby S\u00e1nchez<\/a>\u00a0double. That set the stage for Buck.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBuck worked an eight-pitch at-bat in the second before flying out. In the fourth, Buck again saw eight Pelfrey pitches. This time, however, he was able to get the good part of the bat onto the ball, depositing a grand slam into the right-center field seats.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBuck\u2019s blast broke a scoreless tie and put the Marlins ahead for good. After S\u00e1nchez extended the lead with an RBI single in the fifth, the Mets finally got to Florida starter\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=johnsjo09,johnso031jos,johnsjo11,johnso027jos&amp;search=Josh+Johnson&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=fishonfirst.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-04-01_br\" rel=\"external nofollow noopener\" style=\"background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); font-family: BlinkMacSystemFont, -apple-system, \" segoe=\"\" ui=\"\" roboto=\"\" helvetica=\"\" arial=\"\" sans-serif=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Josh Johnson<\/a>, who took a no-hitter into the seventh, with a pair of runs. New York brought the tying run to the plate, but reliever <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dunnmi01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=fishonfirst.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-04-01_br\" rel=\"external nofollow noopener\" style=\"background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); font-family: BlinkMacSystemFont, -apple-system, \" segoe=\"\" ui=\"\" roboto=\"\" helvetica=\"\" arial=\"\" sans-serif=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Dunn<\/a> was able to fan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hairssc01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=fishonfirst.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-04-01_br\" rel=\"external nofollow noopener\" style=\"background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); font-family: BlinkMacSystemFont, -apple-system, \" segoe=\"\" ui=\"\" roboto=\"\" helvetica=\"\" arial=\"\" sans-serif=\"\" target=\"_blank\">Scott Hairston<\/a> to end the threat.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tA solo blast from Morrison to lead off the bottom of the eight capped the scoring. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/n\/nunezle01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=fishonfirst.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-04-01_br\" rel=\"external nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Juan Carlos Oviedo<\/a>, then known as Leo Nu\u00f1ez, retired the Mets in order to seal the victory.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tJohnson picked up the win, allowing two runs on just three hits in 6 \u2154 innings. Buck and S\u00e1nchez each had two of Florida\u2019s 10 hits.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBuck never equaled his 2010 totals when he hit .281 with 20 home runs and 66 RBIs but was serviceable in his two seasons with the Marlins. Buck hit just .227 in 2011, but his 16 home runs and 57 RBIs were the most for a Florida catcher in four years.
