{"id":657222,"date":"2026-04-01T19:01:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T19:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/657222\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T19:01:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T19:01:15","slug":"mets-face-stiff-competition-from-blue-jays-braves-for-really-good-al-starter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/657222\/","title":{"rendered":"Mets face stiff competition from Blue Jays, Braves for &#8216;really good&#8217; AL starter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This past offseason, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/mlb\/new-york-mets\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Mets<\/a> showed they are willing to <a target=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/mlb\/milwaukee-brewers\/news\/brewers-thrilled-righty-pitcher-mets-freddy-peralta-trade\/02dd5b4bf927efecb0a78fc6\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">offload prospects for a starting pitcher<\/a> they have their eyes set on.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Middle infielder Jett Williams and right-hander Brandon Sproat were dealt to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/mlb\/milwaukee-brewers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> for Freddy Peralta, who is now New York&#8217;s ace. But come August, the Mets could be active at the trade deadline.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The NL East club hopes to be one of the National League&#8217;s top contenders and surge its way through the postseason and into the World Series. Peralta is more than capable of handling part of the mentioned task, but he may need some extra assistance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/25412440-10-best-mlb-trade-chips-2026-season\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bleacher Report&#8217;s Zachary D. Rymer<\/a> linked the Mets, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/mlb\/toronto-blue-jays\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/mlb\/atlanta-braves\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Atlanta Braves<\/a> to a 29-year-old All-Star who is the ace of a struggling AL Central club.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mets named landing spot for 11.8 SO\/9 right-hander\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/mlb\/minnesota-twins\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Minnesota Twins<\/a> were <a target=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/mlb\/minnesota-twins\/news\/twins-f-grade-offseason-thanks-owner-tom-pohlad-meddling\/e99a5b7b5d554f448f3d52ba\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">very active at last year&#8217;s trade deadline<\/a>, dealing 10 Major League players over the course of one week. They held on to No. 1 starter Joe Ryan, though, keeping him in the rotation for the remainder of the season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Like Isaac Paredes, Joe Ryan is not a free agent until after 2027, no matter what happens with that option,&#8221; wrote Rymer. &#8220;He, therefore, would not be a rental for prospective buyers.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ryan posted a 3.42 ERA with 194 strikeouts in 171 innings last season, cementing himself as one of baseball&#8217;s brightest stars on the mound.
