Guardians rookie Chase DeLauter left Tuesday night\u2019s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> after fouling a ball off his leg. DeLauter did complete the at-bat, which was a groundout, but left the game in between innings.<\/p>\n

The team says the X-rays on his left foot were negative and diagnosed him with a left foot contusion. What does this mean for the rest of DeLauter\u2019s season?<\/p>\n

Yet another injury<\/p>\n

Chase DeLauter has struggled with injuries, especially with the left foot that was injured last night. DeLauter suffered multiple fractures in his left foot back in 2023 and suffered a left foot sprain in 2024. And now he has this contusion.<\/p>\n

DeLauter has also had a fractured hamate bone in his right wrist in 2025, underwent core muscle surgery in 2025, and has missed time with a toe and a hamstring strain. Health was the major question mark surrounding DeLauter heading into the season. It was never his skill set.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Even though this is more of a freak incident, fouling a ball off your leg and foot, it is still another injury to add to the list of injuries DeLauter has become known to endure.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, the X-rays were negative, so DeLauter should be back sooner rather than later.<\/a> Regardless, there are more issues with injuries than just missing time.<\/p>\n

When a baseball player is injured, especially a prime-time batter, it is really difficult to return to the timing they had before they got hurt. DeLauter is one of the hottest players in all of baseball right now with his league-leading four home runs and is among the AL Rookie of the Year favorites.<\/a> He even just won the American League Player of the Week award.<\/a><\/p>\n

DeLauter has been hot since halfway through Spring Training, and if he were to now miss a week or two with this contusion, there will definitely be concern that his timing and routine are thrown off. DeLauter already has struck out at a high clip; the last thing the Guardians and DeLauter need is to get his timing off and strike out more, which includes a dip in the run production he has brought to the table so far.<\/p>\n

If DeLauter can return from this left foot contusion sooner rather than later and maintain his timing and keep up his run production, his rookie season will continue to be an incredible one. But if that timing or his mechanics get thrown off during his recovery time, his run production will dip, and so will his confidence.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It is up to DeLauter and his mindset as to how he returns from this injury. If he can remain locked in, people will forget this ever happened. If he ends up falling off a cliff a bit, this will be a moment in the season that fans will look back on and question how healthy the phenom really is, and if it was the time that threw everything off for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n
