The Twins and Royals are set to face off again Wednesday night. Sam Connon shares his picks and predictions in regards to Minnesota\u2019s starting pitcher, Joe Ryan, and his strikeout props.<\/p>\n

The Minnesota Twins are visiting the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, with first pitch set for 7:40 p.m. ET. Joe Ryan will take the bump for the Twins, facing off against Royals lefty Noah Cameron at Kauffman Stadium. Looking at the odds, lines and Ryan\u2019s strikeouts prop on DraftKings Sportsbook<\/a>, here is a breakdown of how the All-Star could perform in his second outing of the season.<\/p>\n

Joe Ryan Strikeouts Prop<\/p>\n

DraftKings Sportsbook currently has Ryan\u2019s strikeouts thrown line set at 5.5 for Wednesday\u2019s contest against the Royals.<\/p>\n

In his regular season debut at the Baltimore Orioles on March 26, Ryan tossed 5.1 scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and two walks while racking up seven strikeouts, but he wound up with the no-decision when the Twins proceeded to lose 2-1. Ryan induced eight outs via fly balls, compared to two groundouts, two pop ups and one line out. That outing came off a successful Spring Training for Ryan, who went 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA, 1.167 WHIP and eight strikeouts in 12.0 innings of action.<\/p>\n

Ryan was a first-time All-Star in 2025, although it marked his fourth consecutive season making at least 23 starts in Minnesota. He finished his career year 13-10 with a 3.42 ERA, 1.035 WHIP, 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings and a 4.6 WAR across 31 appearances and 171.0 innings.<\/p>\n

Based on FanGraphs<\/a>\u2018 Steamer model, Ryan is projected to go 10-9 with a 3.74 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 189 strikeouts across 28 starts and 168.0 innings in 2026. His 3.4 projected fWAR ranks No. 18 among starting pitchers, while his projected 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings ranks No. 24.<\/p>\n

Joe Ryan picks, predictions<\/p>\n

Ryan made three appearances against the Royals last season, two of which were on the road like Wednesday\u2019s contest. He went for two strikeouts in 2.0 innings and four strikeouts in 7.0 innings in the two away games, then 5.0 innings with five strikeouts at home. On the whole last year, Ryan went 2-1 versus Kansas City with a 3.86 ERA and 1.000 WHIP, but only 7.1 strikeouts per nine innings.<\/p>\n

In 31 starts last season, Ryan cleared 5.5 strikeouts 17 times. He did so in 10 of his 14 starts that lasted at least 6.0 innings, but only seven of his 17 shorter outings.<\/p>\n

Opposing starting pitchers have lasted 6.0, 6.0, 5.0 and 5.0 innings against the Royals, so they haven\u2019t exactly chased off teams\u2019 aces. At the same time, those starters only went for six, three, four and two strikeouts. Kansas City ranks dead last in the big leagues with just 31 strikeouts at the plate this season. The disciplined approach that Matt Quatraro and his staff have implemented has been pretty effective, and that method prevented Ryan from fanning Royals last season as well. I can see the righty going into the fifth inning Wednesday, but falling short of his strikeout line.<\/p>\n
