The Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> capped off a successful road series with an 8-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Pittsburgh took two of three games from the National League Central opponent following an afternoon win at Great American Ball Park. Paul Skenes rebounded from a rough Opening Day to allow one run over five innings, and Bryan Reynolds went deep for the second straight game.<\/p>\n

Reynolds helped Pittsburgh blow the game open by hitting a two-run homer off Emilio Pagan in the ninth inning. The Pirates scored two more runs against the Reds closer in the final frame to secure their third triumph of the young season.<\/p>\n

Reynolds reflected on his insurance home run in a post-game interview with SportsNet Pittsburgh’s Hannah Mears<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Obviously a homer and eight points is nice, but the last inning gave us a little bit more of a cushion,” Reynolds said. “…That was a good one.”<\/p>\n

The Pirates also started strong, as Oneil Cruz crushed a three-run homer<\/a> off southpaw Andrew Abbott in the first inning.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We just came out aggressive and jumped on them early and kind of put them on their heels,” Reynolds said. “From there we had a little lull, but there at the end, we got back at it.”<\/p>\n

Although the offense stalled between the first and final frames, the bullpen maintained Pittsburgh’s lead. Isaac Mattson, Justin Lawrence and Gregory Soto closed the game by pitching 3 1\/3 scoreless innings.<\/p>\n

“They were awesome,” Reynolds said of Pittsburgh’s relievers. “They were attacking the hitters, getting right after them and throwing their best stuff and trusting it. Yeah, they did great.”<\/p>\n

After splitting six road games, the Pirates return to PNC Park to host the Baltimore Orioles this Friday. Reynolds is pumped to head home for the first time this season.<\/p>\n

“Super excited for the home opener,” Reynolds said. “Coming off a good series here, good momentum. So, just kind of snowball that for the rest of the season.”<\/p>\n
