Cam Schlittler is taking the mound again on Wednesday against the Mariners, but the Yankees’ ace-in-waiting got his year off to a tremendous start against the Giants last Friday.<\/a> He tossed 5 1\/3 scoreless innings, allowed just one hit and struck out eight batters.<\/p>\n

He was feeling himself after that one, too, and took to social media later that night to rile up some trolls. He tweeted “Keep hating on us” \u2014 a simple message that received 805 responses. Schlittier, for as good as he is, is not really a household name. How in the world are that many people flagging him down (he only has 45K followers) for a four-word tweet that immediately gets lost on the timeline?<\/p>\n

Well, Yankees fans love him. That’s what garnered a good amount of of the interaction. But the amount of rival fans melting down<\/a> about absolutely nothing? As one of the Yankees fan’s comments said: “Absolute Schlittema.”<\/p>\n

Blue Jays fans were particularly unwell in their reaction<\/a>, which … we have no idea why. Schlittler was pitching on the other side of the country against a team in the National League, so all we can deduce from that is those folks are still incredibly unwell <\/a>after losing the 2025 World Series in the manner they did.<\/p>\n

If this is all it takes then, man, it’s going to be a long 2026 season for anybody who despises the Yankees that much.<\/p>\n

Keep hating on us<\/p>\n

Think about it this way. And maybe we’re wrong. But, as a Yankees fan, are you aware of what someone as famous as Vladimir Guerrero is doing on social media (unless it’s directed at the Yankees)? What about Kevin Gausman? George Springer?<\/p>\n

Those are probably the three most famous people on the Blue Jays and there’s a good chance most Yankees fans couldn’t even be bothered. Meanwhile Jays and Red Sox fans swarmed the mentions of the Yankees’ eighth-most famous player. It’s a sign of the times. They know he’s that damn good, and they aren’t going to be able to sleep until he isn’t.<\/p>\n

Sorry to these folks, but the road for Schlittler has only just begun. We’re not saying there won’t be bumps along the way, but the start to his MLB career is as promising as any young pitcher in recent memory, and his crowning achievement thus far was bouncing the Red Sox \u2014 his childhood team and the Yankees’ most hated rival \u2014 from the playoffs last year.<\/p>\n

Next up? Revenge on the Jays for that ALDS loss, even though the Yankees’ offense and bullpen was to blame after Schlittler allowed just two runs in 6 1\/3 innings. The time will come, and we’ll be waiting. So will Cam.<\/p>\n
