The New York Mets<\/a> are off to a nice start to the campaign so far in 2026 with a 3-2 record through five games. However, there is always going to be room for improvement for the team as they try to dethrone the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers.<\/p>\n

Following a busy winter, it is nice to see that the Mets have gotten off to a strong start. For quite some time, there was a lot of concern about what the direction of the team was going to be. However, with a flurry of late moves, New York ended up replacing a lot of the talent that they lost and let go, and it ultimately was seen as a good offseason.<\/p>\n

One of the main areas the team focused on improving was the starting rotation. This was a unit that fell apart in the second half of the year, and it needed to be addressed. The Mets accomplished that goal in a major way with the addition of Freddy Peralta, but if they want to be a real title contender, they could look to add more help to the unit.<\/p>\n

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report<\/a> recently wrote about the best trade chips across MLB this season. One of them is Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Joe Ryan, and Rymer listed the Mets as a potential landing spot.<\/p>\n

With the Twins expected to be one of the worst teams in the league this year, many of their talented players will be subjected to trade rumors throughout the season. Ryan is going to be one of them and could be the best pitcher possibly available this season.<\/p>\n

Last year, he totaled a 13-10 record and 3.42 ERA on what was a pretty bad team. He will be appealing to a lot of teams seeking a front-end of the rotation starter, and New York could be one of them.<\/p>\n

While the Mets’ rotation has gotten off to a nice start<\/a>, it is still early, and there is no such thing as having too much pitching. Furthermore, with the ultimate goal being to beat the Dodgers at some point, the Mets don\u2019t currently have the talent to match up against their loaded rotation.<\/p>\n

Adding Ryan could not only be a move to help New York this year, but also in upcoming seasons as well. At just 29 years old, he and Peralta could be staples at the top of the rotation for years to come if the Mets wish to lock both of them up. While nothing would be imminent at this stage of the season, Ryan will be a name to keep an eye on for the Mets.<\/p>\n
