As the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> replenished their bullpen Wednesday, manager Dave Roberts announced that two-way standout Shohei Ohtani<\/a> will make his next pitching start against the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> on April 8.<\/p>\n

Ohtani (1-0) tossed six shutout innings during his season debut Tuesday, earning a 4-1 decision over the Cleveland Guardians<\/a> at Dodger Stadium.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Recovered from his second Tommy John surgery, Ohtani returned to the pitching mound during the second half of last season. One of the game\u2019s top offensive\u00a0talents, he\u00a0is expected to make one pitching start every seven or eight days. Twenty-five starts and about 150 innings\u00a0remain\u00a0top season\u00a0objectives.<\/p>\n

Dodgers make moves to bolster pitching staff <\/p>\n

Roberts said Ohtani\u2019s outing Wednesday\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0match his Los Angeles Angels<\/a> form from 2021-23, but he overcame most obstacles. <\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, in that last inning, the mound started to get to him a little bit,\u201d Roberts said, as reported by Yahoo Sports<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cBeing able to fix it and\u00a0kind of get\u00a0his footing back was good to get through that Hoskins at-bat. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut yeah, not a whole lot affects his mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

Is he thinking about making a run at a Cy Young award<\/a>?<\/p>\n

His second start will come in a series finale at Rogers Centre. <\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, I felt good. But this year, I do feel a lot more loose and easy pitching overall,\u201d Ohtani said via his interpreter. \u201cLooking back at today\u2019s outing specifically, that\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0necessarily the case. So\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0something I want to work on.\u201d<\/p>\n
