After the first month of the regular season, any questions about the pitching are gone.

Heading into the last week of March, North Bullitt just had a single extra inning loss. And with the exception of the setback against Meade County, North Bullitt pitchers had not given up more than three runs in a game.

Maybe the best performance of the year on the hill came last Saturday when Butler came to town. For years, the two programs have had numerous matchups in post-season play.

While the pitching was lights out, the timely hitting struggled. Still, North Bullitt won 3-2 in 11 innings.

“It was just a frustrating offensive day,” said Wise. “But the pitching was tremendous.”

Facing the two top Bear hurlers, North Bullitt hitters struck out 15 times and there were 14 Eagles left on base. Both are things Wise is not accustomed to seeing.

On at least three occasions, North Bullitt had runners in scoring position with no outs but failed to plate a runner.

Don’t worry, the pitchers would come to the rescue.

Starter Brady Egnor got his second start of the spring and gave up just one earned run through five innings. Caden Dorsey threw two spotless innings.

And junior Avery Hooper pitched the final four innings of one-hit ball to earn the victory.

The Eagles got the board in the first inning. Rowen Burton singled and Dylan Hornback was hit by a pitch. A double steal put Burton in position to score on Luke Deitchman’s groundout.

Down 2-1, North Bullitt would tie the score in the sixth. Lucas Oliver singled and scored on Dawson Duncan’s double, which the centerfielder lost in the sun.

After missing on scoring opportunities in the eighth and 10th innings, the home team finally got the win in the 11th.

Burton walked and Hornback doubled. Deitchman walked to load the bases.

A wild pitch with Jeremiah Green, who transferred to North Bullitt from Butler this season, at the plate, allowed Burton to score the winning run.

“I am very pleased that we had several emotional letdowns but we handled them well,” said Wise. “It was a very good win for us. We could see them in the post-season.”

The Eagles got the week started with a 13-1 win on Monday over Bethlehem in four innings.

Hooper, getting his first varsity start after three appearances out of the bullpen, was sharp. He allowed just two hits and an unearned run in four innings.

“He was good,” said Wise. “He has shown us that he’s a pitcher we can depend on in the bullpen or starting.”

The Eagles got the first inning started with three runs. Burton’s double was followed by a walk to Hornback. Deitchman’s single plated one run. Oliver’s single drove home another two runs.

In the second, Christian White walked and advanced to third on Cody Pendleton’s double. White would score on a passed ball.

A five-run third inning started when Grayson Phillips walked and Green was hit by a pitch. An infield single by Oliver loaded the bases.

Michael McKnight and White were both walked to force in runs. Burton was hit by a pitch for another RBI.

And Deitchman doubled to drive home the final two runs of the inning.

In the fourth, Green singled and Oliver was hit by a pitch. McKnight had an RBI single and White followed with an RBI single.

Pendleton then had an RBI single and Burton was hit with a pitch to drive home the final run of the inning and the game.

On Wednesday, it was another run-rule game as North Bullitt defeated Fairdale 15-3 in four innings.

Hunter Whittaker got the start and got two outs in the third inning when he ran into problems. The senior allowed just two earned runs but Wise felt it was time to change, especially with the Eagles behind 3-1.

Deitchman would get his first opportunity on the varsity mound and responded with one-hit ball over five outs to get the victory.

The Eagles scored a single run in the first inning when Pendleton walked, stole second and scored on Burton’s RBI double.

In the third, the Eagles took over. Pendleton tripled and Burton walked. Hornback drove them home with a single and then went to third on an error.

Phillips had an RBI single and Green singled and stole a base.

Egnor had an RBI groundout and Oliver had an RBI single. White would walk and a double steal put both in a position to score on Pendleton’s single.

Burton had an RBI double and Hornback and Deitchman both walked. Green had a 2 RBI double.

In the fourth, McKnight walked and Hornback singled. A walk to Deitchman loaded the bases. Phillips was hit by a pitch to earn an RBI. And Green’s walk plated the walk-off run.

The Eagles traveled to Oldham County on Monday and returned to host Bullitt Central on Tuesday in a District 23 battle. The final pre-spring break game was set for Wednesday at Elizabethtown.

The team will then depart for its spring break trip to the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, where is will play four games against one team from Virginia and three from Ohio.

HEBRON ESTATES – Coming into the season, veteran North Bullitt baseball coach Brian Wise had no questions about…

[2288
2315,2309,2336,5,2316,2323,2314,2313,2325,2330,2333,2334,19,2310,2328,2304,2318,2308,4,2305,2303,2307,2320,74048,2326,185,2324,811,2560,2338,2311,2312
0":"post-658255","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-mlb-postseason","8":"tag-athletic-sports","9":"tag-ball-and-bat-games","10":"tag-ball-games","11":"tag-baseball","12":"tag-baseball-competitions","13":"tag-baseball-events","14":"tag-baseball-finals","15":"tag-baseball-playoffs-and-champions","16":"tag-baseball-teams","17":"tag-glossary-of-baseball-terms","18":"tag-grass-field-surfaces","19":"tag-lawn-games","20":"tag-major-league-baseball","21":"tag-major-league-baseball-competitions","22":"tag-major-league-baseball-playoffs","23":"tag-major-league-baseball-postseason","24":"tag-major-league-baseball-seasons","25":"tag-major-league-baseball-teams","26":"tag-mlb","27":"tag-mlb-playoffs","28":"tag-mlb-postseason","29":"tag-outdoor-sports","30":"tag-pitcher","31":"tag-rules-of-baseball","32":"tag-run-baseball","33":"tag-sports","34":"tag-sports-events","35":"tag-starting-pitcher","36":"tag-stolen-base","37":"tag-team-activities","38":"tag-team-sports","39":"tag-turf-sports
["GET
