The Colorado Rockies were dealt an in-game scare as right-hander Ryan Feltner was forced to leave his start after being struck by a ball.<\/p>\n

Feltner exited the game against the Toronto Blue Jays with a right glute contusion after taking a line drive off the bat of Andr\u00e9s Gim\u00e9nez.<\/p>\n

A Sudden Exit on the Mound<\/p>\n

The play happened fast.<\/p>\n

Gim\u00e9nez sent a sharp comebacker toward the mound where it struck Feltner and immediately, of course, raised concern. After being evaluated, Feltner was removed from the game.<\/p>\n

Any time a pitcher is hit, it raises concern, but a line drive is a serious situation and Feltner\u2019s exit reflected that.<\/p>\n

How Serious is a Glute Contusion?<\/p>\n

A glute contusion is essentially a deep bruise in the muscle. A line drive will definitely inflict that.<\/p>\n

While this is not typically considered a long-term injury, the severity can depend. The next few days will tell the story for Feltner with swelling and pain levels along with his mobility following the injury. <\/p>\n

What This Means for the Rockies\"Colorado<\/p>\n

Feltner earned the fifth starting position in the rotation, even after spending a lot of the 2025 campaign on the IL. Some of the pressure for Feltner to perform was relieved when the team signed several starting pitchers, including Tomoyuki Sugano<\/a> and Jose Quintana, over the offseason.<\/p>\n

Depending on the reports about the injury, the Rockies may need to lean on Chase Dollander<\/a> to fill the gap. Colorado had a dismal year of pitching in 2025, and losing any of the starters won\u2019t be optimal this early in the season.<\/p>\n

If the injury turns out to be minor, a few days off and some therapy may be enough to get Feltner back on the mound. <\/p>\n

Feltner Was Producing Before Exit<\/p>\n

Probably the most disappointing part of the exit was the fact that Feltner was producing at the mound before he was forced to exit. <\/p>\n

Through three innings pitched, he had just allowed one hit, zero earned runs, caused four strikeouts and posted a .67 WHIP.<\/p>\n

It was shaping up to be a promising start for Feltner, and in an instant, it was over. The next 24 to 48 hours will be critical in assessing the full effect of his injury. <\/p>\n

Colorado had to look to four more pitchers after Feltner\u2019s exit, where ultimately, Juan Mejia would record the loss and end the evening with a 5.40 ERA. The Rockies fell to the Blue Jays with a score of 1-5.<\/p>\n
