Konnor Griffin still hasn’t played a game<\/a> for the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> yet, but that’s not stopping them from trying to lock him up for a long time.<\/p>\n

It was reported earlier this week that Griffin and the Pirates are deep in contract extension negotiations<\/a>, indicating that a deal may get done soon.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Griffin is believed to be seeking a deal<\/a> in the neighborhood of Roman Anthony’s eight-year,\u00a0$130 million contract extension with the Boston Red Sox, which he signed during his rookie season last summer. That seems reasonable for a\u00a019-year-old shortstop with superstar skills and the ability to become the face of Pittsburgh’s franchise.<\/p>\n

“Nobody disagrees with the fact that this guy is an electrifying talent that will probably be here for a long, long time,” Matt Vasgersian\u00a0said.<\/p>\n

“This guy’s gonna be the future of the Pittsburgh Pirates,” former MLB player Yonder Alonso agreed. “I love what they’re trying to do right now, lock him in before he even gets to the Show… For me, this makes all the sense in the world… If anything, it’s a bargain.”<\/p>\n

Alonso also predicted that Griffin will make his MLB debut within the next month.<\/p>\n

“His bat is too important,” Alonso explained. He also thinks the Pirates will contend this year, calling them “the sneak of the National League.”<\/p>\n

Griffin’s raking at Triple-A, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get promoted soon. It’s only a matter of time. However, time will tell if he and Pittsburgh agree to a contract extension by then.<\/p>\n
