After receiving a lifetime ban for alleged sexual misconduct in 2021, long-time Blue Jays infielder Roberto Alomar has spoken out in detail about the allegations, his life since the punishment and more in a new interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to be a Blue Jay for life,\u201d Alomar told the Toronto Sun\u2019s Steve Simmons<\/a> in an interview released on Thursday. \u201cThat\u2019s how I feel. I don\u2019t care what they say about what happened. To me it\u2019s not the fans saying it. People seem to love me in Toronto. Sometimes they ask me \u2018Roberto what happened? We don\u2019t know.\u2019 There\u2019s no story out there. People don\u2019t know why I got suspended.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alomar was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame following his 17-year major-league career, which included five All-Star nods, five Gold Glove Awards and two World Series championships in a five-year span with the Blue Jays.<\/p>\n

In 2021, Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred announced that Alomar had violated MLB policies after a woman came forward with accusations of sexual misconduct stemming from 2014. Manfred indicated that an external law firm had conducted an independent investigation, and that MLB had reviewed the results before making its decision to ban Alomar and terminate a consultant contract that he held at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had been working as a consultant for Major League Baseball and ambassador for the Toronto Blue Jays, whom he led to world championships in 1992 and 1993,\u201d Dan Schlossberg reported for Forbes in 2021<\/a>. \u201cThe Jays said they were cutting all ties with the 12-time All-Star, whose name will be stricken from the team\u2019s Level of Excellence at Rogers Centre, where the banner featuring his retired No. 12 will also be removed.\u201d<\/p>\n

But in his interview with Simmons, Alomar defended his innocence, insisting he was not guilty, noting that he has not seen any evidence following the accusations and adding that he was \u201cbullied\u201d into signing an agreement to match MLB\u2019s $500,000 payment to the female complainant.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy lawyer told me, if you go to court (against this woman), it could wind up costing you $2-3 million in legal fees just to fight this and this could last 10 years,\u201d Alomar told Simmons. \u201cI couldn\u2019t do that. I couldn\u2019t afford to do that. I didn\u2019t have that kind of money. I don\u2019t have that kind of money.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alomar also said he was essentially forced into signing a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), which has kept him from speaking out about the fallout from the accusations up to this point. Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro pointed to his own NDA when declining to comment for Simmons\u2019 report, and Manfred never responded to a request for comment, per Simmons.<\/p>\n

But despite the NDA he said he was forced to sign, Alomar spoke directly about the accusations that turned a Hall of Fame career into a ban and a soured relationship with the Blue Jays.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll I know is I never did whatever they say I did with this girl. I knew her,\u201d Alomar told Simmons. \u201cI saw her for 10 minutes (that night). She went to bed. That was it.\u201d<\/p>\n
