At the time of this writing, they are sporting a 2-4 record and are third in the American League Central. They have also lost each of their last four games, so they will be looking to turn things back around against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday afternoon.

With the Tigers entering the season with high expectations, this kind of start has certainly been disappointing. With this, it would not be particularly surprising if they looked to make some upgrades early on this season to help their odds of being among the top teams in the majors this campaign.

When looking at the Tigers’ current roster, it is clear that one of their big needs is another star infielder. Because of this, they are now being connected to one of baseball’s most notable trade candidates.

Detroit Tigers Predicted to Trade for Houston Astros Star Isaac Paredes

In a recent article for FanSided, Austin Owens discussed a handful of players who could end up being traded ahead of the 2026 MLB trade deadline. Among the players who Owens mentioned was Houston Astros star infielder Isaac Paredes. When noting that Paredes has been a popular name in the rumor mill since the offseason, it makes sense that he is being viewed as a trade candidate to watch.

When it came to Paredes, Owens predicted that the Tigers would end up being the team that trades for the star infielder during this season.

“Paredes could add to an already dangerous Tigers lineup by stabilizing third base, offering another power bat with strong on-base skills. Pitching would have to exceed expectations when it mattered most but this lineup could take the Tigers to the next level,” Owens wrote.

When taking a look at the Tigers’ roster, there is no question that they could use a high-impact infielder like Paredes. If they landed him, he would give them another solid option to work with in the front half of their batting order.

Paredes is also coming off a strong 2025 season. In 102 games during this past season with the Astros, he had 20 home runs, 53 RBIs, 96 hits, and a .254 batting average. With this, he was an All-Star for the second season in a row and would be a major pickup for a Tigers club that is looking to be a top team.

Tigers & Paredes Already Have History

If the Tigers acquired Paredes from the Astros, it would be his second stint with the American League Central team. This is because Paredes played his first two major league seasons with the Tigers in 2020 and 2021.

In 57 games over two seasons with the Tigers, Paredes had two home runs, seven doubles, 11 RBIs, and a .215 batting average. His time with the Tigers ended when he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in the deal that brought Austin Meadows. Following this move, Paredes would break out and become a star in Tampa Bay.

With this, it would be interesting to see the Tigers bring back Paredes. Time will tell if they do just that.

Michael DeRosa Michael covers the NHL for Heavy.com.
