Along with strong performances at their respective levels last season, some of these prospects stood out for one reason or another during spring training.

Here are four notable prospects who received promotions to the next level of play to start the next season. This is decision-making is based on prospects who spent significant time or the entire season at one level.

For example of who missed the cut, Lucas Braun made one start with Triple-A Gwinnett last season, and he’s starting the season with them again. This is to highlight those experience a certain level for the first time.

Cam Caminiti, High-A Rome (Last Season: Single-A Augusta)

Caminiti comes into this season with a clean bill of health. He’ll have the chance to start the season on time and pitch with fewer limitations.

In 2025, he finished the season with a 2.08 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, a .210 BAA and 75 strikeouts (12 K/9) in 56 1/3 innings pitched. During the spring training season, he caught attention with a weekend performance in which he dominated Pittsburgh Pirates minor leaguers in the backfields. He tallied seven strikeouts, which included 11 whiffs. He also froze batters a few times to punch them out.

John Gil, High-A Rome (Last Season: Single-A Augusta)

Yes, he saw some action with Double-A Columbus last season. It was for a few games to get him some extra at-bats. It’s hard to call it a true promotion. Given that he spent virtually the entire season with Single-A Augusta and he’s never seen action in High-A, this counts as a promotion for this list.

Gil saw action with the Braves in big league camp. His performance reflected the power surge he has been experiencing, but it’s clear he needs more time to develop. That’s not a negative. He’s a 19-year-old who hit three home runs between spring training games and the spring breakout.

He’s a clear prospect to watch this season, and it will be worth checking in on him.

Owen Murphy, Double-A Columbus (Last Season: High-A Rome)

Murphy had a strong performance in High-A Rome last season once he returned from recovering from Tommy John surgery. He had a 1.32 ERA and a 0.77 WHIP across six starts. He was due for a promotion.

He made two appearances with the Braves in spring training, allowing a run across four total innings. He struck out six and allowed just three baserunners. The 22-year-old right-hander has a solid chance to reach Triple-A this season if his success carries over this season.

Double-A should provide him with a nice challenge. Hitters become significantly more disciplined at this level.

Garrett Baumann, Double-A Columbus (Last Season: High-A Rome)

Like Murphy, Baumann made two appearances with the Braves in spring training. He allowed two earned runs across four innings pitched. He allowed four total baserunners while striking out five.

Based on his track record, it would seem likely that he spends the full season in Double-A. He’s had a full season with both Augusta and Rome. Maybe he makes a start at the end of the year in Triple-A. There’s precedent that he could make a start at the level up at least once.

That time could be what’s simply best for his development. However, if he warrants a move up to Triple-A, the Braves likely won’t hold him back.

Sign up for our free newsletter for the latest news

Some of the Atlanta Braves‘ top prospects have been rewarded with a promotion to start the season.
