Jackson Prep alum and baseball\u2019s top prospect, Konnor Griffin, will be making his major league debut, after being called up by the Pittsburgh Pirates. <\/p>\n
Griffin was taken with ninth pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, after winning four state championships, Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year, and committing to LSU baseball during his time at Jackson Prep. <\/p>\n
While Mississippians knew about Griffin\u2019s true capabilities, his first full season of professional baseball last year is what brought his talent to a nationwide scale. <\/p>\n

Griffin started with Low-A Bradenton in the minor leagues and was all the way up to Double-A Altoona by the end of the season.<\/p>\n
He put together a dominant statline last year through three minor league levels that put people across the baseball world on notice. <\/p>\n
Through the course of 122 games in the minor leagues last season, Griffin hit for a .333 batting average, along with 94 RBIs, 21 home runs, and 65 stolen bases, while also earning a Minor League Golden Glove Award as a shortstop and was named the Minor League Baseball Player of the Year. <\/p>\n
Griffin spent most of spring training with the Pirates, but was sent down to minor league camp after hitting for a .171 batting average with four home runs in 46 plate appearances. <\/p>\n
Griffin has spent the first five games of this season at Triple-A Indianapolis, where he has hit for a .438 batting average.<\/p>\n
Still just 19 years old, Griffin will be the first hitter to make his major league debut as a teenager since New York Mets star Juan Soto made his debut at age 19 back in 2018 for the Washington Nationals.<\/p>\n
Griffin is scheduled to make his debut during the Pittsburgh Pirate\u2019s home opener on Friday, April 3rd against the Baltimore Orioles.
