Though the Toronto Blue Jays failed to sign a star outfielder this offseason, there are still a few options the team could pursue this season in trade.<\/p>\n

Toronto was one of the top contenders to sign Kyle Tucker this offseason, but whiffed on the four-time All-Star as well as former MVP Cody Bellinger. The Blue Jays traded the Houston Astros for Jes\u00fas S\u00e1nchez\u00a0in February, but could still bolster their outfield with a deal before the trade deadline, especially with Daulton Varsho and George Springer on expiring contracts.<\/p>\n

Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer listed<\/a> the Blue Jays as a potential landing spot to trade for Minnesota Twins star outfielder Byron Buxton, which would give the team a high-impact veteran who could serve as a long-term solution in center field. <\/p>\n

“Byron Buxton proclaimed himself a ‘Twin for life’ a couple of weeks before last year’s trade deadline, but he couldn’t have known then that the franchise was headed for a downward spiral,” Rymer wrote Wednesday. “On it goes, with the Twins off to a 1-3 start after crashing out at the end of 2025. And since Buxton was reportedly willing (per ESPN’s\u00a0Jeff Passan<\/a>) to waive his no-trade clause over the winter, he should be considered a top trade name for the summer market.<\/p>\n

“Buxton’s injury history shouldn’t require elaboration at this point. That might be what keeps his market from taking off. When he\u00a0is\u00a0healthy, though, he’s a superstar-caliber player on both sides of the ball. To wit, here are Buxton’s numbers on a per-162 basis since 2021: 6.3 rWAR, 35 home runs and 19 stolen bases, with a 134 OPS+.”<\/p>\n

Buxton is on a seven-year, $100 million<\/a> contract and is under team control through the 2028 season. The two-time All-Star slugger set career highs with 35 home runs and 83 runs batted in last year, but was one of the few stars that the Twins held onto during their fire sale at the trade deadline. <\/p>\n

In addition to making a major impact at the plate, Buxton is also a former Gold Glove winner. The Blue Jays were aggressive this offseason after a trip to the World Series, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the team remain aggressive at the trade deadline to improve its roster down the stretch.<\/p>\n
