The past week in Major League Baseball has been an extension frenzy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Two prospects who are yet to receive their first plate appearance in the Majors (Cooper Pratt, Colt Emerson) signed extensions with the Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> and Seattle Mariners<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Emerson’s $95 million pact<\/a> with the Mariners is the record for an MLB prospect before making a debut. Pratt won’t turn 22 until August and has just three games under his belt <\/a>at Triple-A. The top prospect in baseball, Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> shortstop Konnor Griffin, could be next.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, could it be the Cincinnati Reds<\/a>‘ turn for an extension? First baseman Sal Stewart is open-minded to the idea of agreeing to a long-term deal, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer<\/a> reported on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I’m definitely open to it,” Stewart told Wittenmyer. “I’m open to it because they took a chance on me when I was young, and I want to do it for this city. This city means a lot to me, and they’ve become my family.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Stewart’s defense is still a work in progress, but he’s done nothing but hit<\/a> since making his debut in 2025. The 22-year-old is off to a blistering start this season, hitting .474\/.615\/.947 with two home runs and seven walks compared to three strikeouts in 26 trips to the plate.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Via arbitration, Stewart is under team control through the 2029 season, and he does not reach free agency until 2032, but the Reds could be thinking that now is the best time to agree to a long-term deal.\u00a0<\/p>\n
