Pete Alonso was already getting solid reviews with the Baltimore Orioles<\/a> even before the regular season arrived.<\/p>\n

But now that the games count, he has continued to prove a worthwhile investment.<\/p>\n

The Orioles signed Alonso for five years and $155 million this offseason. It was a price the New York Mets<\/a> weren’t willing to pay, and so Alonso left the NL East for the AL East.<\/p>\n

So far, so good.<\/p>\n

MLB.com’s Jake Rill<\/a> wrote in a new article that “Alonso is living up to the hype.”<\/p>\n

He broke it down further like this:<\/p>\n

“The O\u2019s opening homestand was a bit uneven, but Alonso is already providing a steady presence in the heart of the order. No surprise, right? This is why Baltimore went big and\u00a0signed the Polar Bear to a five-year, $155 million contract\u00a0over the offseason. The 31-year-old slugger hit a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning of Sunday\u2019s 8-6 win over the Twins, and two days later, he\u00a0swatted his first Orioles homer, taking former Mets teammate\u00a0Jacob deGrom\u00a0deep in an 8-5 loss to the Rangers. Alonso is hitting .304 (7-for-23) over his first six games for the O\u2019s.”<\/p>\n

Mets fans definitely noticed the irony of Alonso taking deGrom deep while neither was wearing a Mets uniform.<\/p>\n

Alonso will take the home runs and the hits off of anyone, though. He is a natural team leader and knows Baltimore had a rough 2025 season.<\/p>\n

The Orioles have plenty of talent, and Alonso is one of the guys who can set the tone toward having an improved campaign.<\/p>\n

If Baltimore can compete near the top of the challenging AL East, it’ll likely be in large part thanks to Alonso’s added influence and ability.<\/p>\n
