During the third inning of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Thursday night matchup with the Atlanta Braves, Jordan Lawlar<\/a> reached an important career milestone.<\/p>\n

His first major league home run. <\/p>\n

Lawlar saw a 94 MPH fastball from Braves right-handed starter Reynaldo Lopez and crushed it to the pull side. The ball came off the bat at 105.5 MPH, and it was not cheap \u2014 it traveled 424 feet deep to left center field. <\/p>\n

It’s been a long journey to this point in Lawlar’s career. The former No. 1 prospect has battled injuries and struggled to adjust to major league pitching. It’s been tough to find consistent playing time, until this year. <\/p>\n

Thus far, the 2026 season shows all the signs of being a potential breakout. He’s hitting .353\/.389\/.588 thus far in the young season after a brilliant .333\/.448\/.604 showing in the Cactus League \u2014 with four homers there, notably.<\/p>\n

There has always been a power potential for Lawlar, who owns a career but he’s struggled with same-handed pitching \u2014 particularly off-speed and breaking balls. <\/p>\n

But he began to put those doubts to rest early in 2026, and has carried that hot streak into the regular season. <\/p>\n

“We want [Lawlar] to continue to control the zone, have good plate coverage, have awareness on the outer half, check off of spin that isn’t there. We’ve seen that in spurts at different times, and we know what he’s capable of doing,” manager Torey Lovullo said <\/a>during spring training.<\/p>\n

Lawlar has looked sharper than ever at the plate, even while in the midst of a position change. A good instinctual defender, the transition from the infield to the outfield has been smooth for Arizona’s former top prospect.<\/p>\n

His word for the year<\/a> has been “athletic,” and that has been on full display for the young outfielder. Arizona’s lineup is in good shape if Lawlar can continue his recent upward trends.<\/p>\n
