(Photo by Al Bello\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>On Friday afternoon, the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"New York Yankees\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/mlb\/new-york-yankees\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213164\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Yankees<\/a> will host the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Miami Marlins\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/mlb\/miami-marlins\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213170\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Miami Marlins<\/a> for their home opener in the Bronx.<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees come into the matchup with a 5-1 record in their first six games, which has them at the top of the American League East.<\/p>\n<p>Former New York Yankees All-Star Is Still A Free Agent<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5877597\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5877597\" data-lazy-load=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2181636416.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\"  \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5877597\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GettyNestor Cortes #65 of the New York Yankees pitches against the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Los Angeles Dodgers\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/mlb\/los-angeles-dodgers\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213166\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> in the fourth inning during Game Three of the 2024 World Series at Yankee Stadium on October 28, 2024 in the Bronx borough of New York City.<\/p>\n<p>With the season underway, it\u2019s worth noting that former Yankees All-Star <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Nestor Cortes\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/mlb\/player\/nestor-cortes\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213168\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nestor Cortes<\/a> is still a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fangraphs.com\/roster-resource\/free-agent-tracker?sign=unsigned\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">free agent<\/a> on April 3.<\/p>\n<p>He is available to sign with any team in the league.<\/p>\n<p>The 31-year-old is coming off a season where he spent time with the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Milwaukee Brewers\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/mlb\/milwaukee-brewers\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213169\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> and <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"San Diego Padres\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/mlb\/san-diego-padres\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213165\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego Padres<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/francysromeroFR\/status\/1979003243037413718\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Francys Romero wrote (on October 16, 2025):<\/a> \u201cNestor Cortes underwent a successful surgery to repair a small tendon tear in his left arm. The 30-year-old Cuban left-hander is expected to return to baseball activities in approximately 9\u201310 months. Will be out until after the All-Star break recovering from a biceps tendon tear.
