The Reds and Rangers had the luxury of an off-day on Thursday and now gear up for a three-game set during the weekend.<\/p>\n
Cincinnati has been a mixed bag thus far. After taking two of three from the Red Sox, a playoff contender, the Reds lost two of three to the Pirates, a bottom-feeder. It\u2019s hard to determine the Reds\u2019 capabilities this season as the offense features some exciting names, but most have been quiet.<\/p>\n
Sal Stewart is one of baseball\u2019s most exciting players to start the season. He debuted for the Reds last year but played just 18 total games. Now on the 2026 Opening Day roster, Stewart is batting .474 across six games and 19 at-bats. Between him, Matt McLain and Elly De La Cruz, the Reds have a nice group of young talent. The challenge is getting all of them to develop into great players.<\/p>\n
The Rangers have a couple young players, but they\u2019re primarily led by veterans. Corey Seager, Brandon Nimmo and Jake Burger headline the offense, with all three starting the season hitting north of .300.<\/p>\n
The pitching staff is where this team gets more exciting. Nathan Eovaldi has had a rough start to the season, but he\u2019s been an awesome ace in recent years. Jack Leiter, MacKenzie Gore and Jacob deGrom fill out a nice rotation with veteran leadership and upside. Gore gets the start on Friday after allowing two earned runs, two hits and three walks, while striking out seven across 5.1 innings against the Phillies.<\/p>\n
Reds vs. Rangers Pick, Best Bet<\/p>\n
Neither team is super exciting outside of some young players breaking out. The Rangers are a good team that will find itself around .500 for the majority of the season, while the Reds attempt to break out with their young core.<\/p>\n
The start of the season hasn\u2019t been kind to Cincinnati. Stewart is playing well, but that\u2019s all that\u2019s gone well. Rangers have won two straight series and are 4-2 to start. A veteran-led team with Gore on the mound is more trusted here.<\/p>\n
