Sam Connon shares his picks and predictions in regards to Seattle’s starting pitcher, Bryan Woo, and his strikeout props.

The Seattle Mariners are visiting the Los Angeles Angels on Friday, with first pitch set for 9:38 p.m. ET/6:38 p.m. PT. Bryan Woo will take the bump for the Mariners, facing off against Angels lefty Reid Detmers in Anaheim. Looking at the odds, lines and Woo’s strikeouts prop on DraftKings Sportsbook, here is a breakdown of how the All-Star could perform in his second outing of the season.

Bryan Woo Strikeouts Prop

DraftKings Sportsbook currently has Woo’s strikeouts thrown line set at 5.5 for Friday’s contest against the Angels.

In his season debut against the guardians on March 28, Woo gave up four hits, one walk and two earned runs across 6.0 innings. Woo also racked up seven strikeouts, needing 83 pitches to face 23 batters. That came in the wake of an efficient showing in Spring Training, during which Woo went 1-0 with a 3.29 ERA, 0.805 WHIP and 9.2 strikeouts per nine innings and a 14.0 strikeout-to-walk ratio in four starts.

Woo made a massive leap in 2025, earning his first All-Star bid and placing fifth in the AL Cy Young race. He tossed 186.2 innings in his 30 starts – both career-highs. Woo went 15-7 with a 2.94 ERA, 0.927 WHIP, 198 strikeouts and 4.2 WAR. While Woo’s longest outing of the season was 7.1 innings, he did complete at least 6.0 innings in 27 of his 30 starts. The Mariners only pulled him before the start of the sixth inning once in the regular season. He made two relief appearances in the postseason, allowing four hits, three walks and three earned runs with two strikeouts across 4.1 innings in the ALCS.

Based on FanGraphs‘ Steamer model, Woo is projected to go 12-10 with a 3.53 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 192 strikeouts across 31 starts and 187.0 innings in 2026. His 3.3 projected fWAR ranks No. 19 among starting pitchers, while his projected 9.02 strikeouts per nine innings ranks No. 58.

Bryan Woo picks, predictions

The Angels have struck out more times than any other team in MLB so far in 2026 with 80 in seven games. Their lineup racked up 10 strikeouts against Matthew Boyd in their series finale against the Cubs on Wednesday, plus nine strikeouts against Astros ace Hunter Brown back on Opening Day. None of the starters in the intervening five games cleared 7.5 strikeouts, averaging 3.8 strikeouts per appearance between them.

Woo has only gone over 7.5 strikeouts 13 times in 71 career big league starts, which is only good for an 18.3% hit rate. He bumped that up to 10-for-30 last season, but that’s still just 33.3%. In eight career starts against the Angels, Woo has only struck out more than 7.5 batters twice. Both of those instances came up in Seattle, though, as he is 0-for-5 at Angel Stadium.

So for as dominant as Woo has looked to open 2026, and for as promising of a campaign he had in 2025, I’m still taking the under on him throwing 7.5 strikeouts Friday.

Best Bet: Bryan Woo under 7.5 strikeouts thrown (-150)

The Mariners and Angels are set to open a series in Anaheim Friday night.
