Star outfielder Aaron Judge gave the home fans a reason to cheer early, showing off his signature power.

Judge stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the first, his team already down after a solo home run from Marlins’ second baseman Xavier Edwards. He did one better, knocking a two-run shot into the left-field bleachers, putting his team into the lead.

The Yankees never looked back as they beat the Marlins 8-2 in their 124th home opener in franchise history. The sun started breaking through the clouds shortly after the 1:35 first pitch and the sold-out crowd of 48,788 fans got to take in a victory in the first regular season game at Yankee Stadium since last September.

It was a cheery environment from start to finish. Team USA Olympic hockey stars Aerin Frankel and Jack Hughes threw out the first pitch, garnering a big cheer from the crowd. The energy only grew from that point with the Yankees scoring four runs in the first two innings.

The win was the third consecutive for the Yankees and improved their record to 6-1 as they’ve been red-hot to start the season.

Will Warren earned his first win of the year, lasting five and two-thirds innings, picking up six strikeouts, and allowing two earned runs, both from solo home runs. The Yankees have yet to allow more than two runs against in a game as their pitching and defense have been excellent.

Besides his home run, Judge also helped bring another run home when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the second inning. The two-time reigning AL MVP finished the game with two hits, one home run, one walk, one hit by pitch, a stolen base, and three runs batted in. While it’s been a slow start to the season in some aspects for the All-Star, his average is still under .200, he was impactful today and a major reason for the victory.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Ben Rice also helped the Yankees put up runs on the board. The former finished with two stolen bases and a double while the latter had three runs batted in including a seventh-inning solo home run.

Ryan Yarbrough finished the game for the Yankees, picking up his first save of the season.

The Yankees and Marlins have two games left in their series. Ryan Weathers is expected to start for the Yankees tomorrow before Max Fried takes over for Sunday’s game. Saturday’s game starts at 7:05 pm.

New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge (99) reacts after hitting a two run home run during the…

[2376
106,5,4,1690,62,2548,2547,142
0":"post-661457","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-new-york-yankees","8":"tag-aaron-judge","9":"tag-baseball","10":"tag-mlb","11":"tag-new-york","12":"tag-new-york-yankees","13":"tag-newyork","14":"tag-newyorkyankees","15":"tag-yankees
["GET
