The San Diego Padres should save Cy Young winning pitcher Sandy Alcantara following his comments where he seemed to call out Miami Marlins fans. <\/p>\n
The Marlins beat the Chicago White Sox 10-0 on Wednesday as Alcantara tossed his 13th career complete game and fifth career shutout.<\/p>\n
Following the outstanding performance, Alcantara spoke to the Marlins Radio Network where he appeared to take issue with the lack of fan attendance. <\/p>\n
“It’s been a long time without throwing a complete game, but this one is special for me,” Alcantara said. “All my family here. Fans not here, but we still love them because we know this is a hard sport, and we know sometimes they gotta do something. They weren’t in the house, but yeah, today was great for me.”<\/p>\n

The unit currently features Michael King, Nick Pivetta, Randy V\u00e1squez, Walker Buehler and Germ\u00e1n Marquez. <\/p>\n While the return of any of the injured pitchers would provide much-needed reinforcements for the Padres, San Diego could use an All-Star-caliber arm. <\/p>\n Alcantara has been linked to the Padres before, most recently at last summer’s trade deadline. However, the right-hander finished the 2025 season with Miami in a bit of a surprise move.<\/p>\n In his first season back since Tommy John surgery, Alcantara posted a 5.36 ERA with 142 strikeouts across 174.2 innings of work. It was far from his best campaign, but he’s started the 2026 season off in quite the dominant way. <\/p>\n The right-hander hasn’t allowed a run in 16 innings with 12 strikeouts. The Padres need to add proven talent to the rotation<\/a> if they want to make a deep playoff run. Alcantara not only has the resume, but is also performing at an elite level to open the season. <\/p>\n President of baseball operations A.J. Preller didn’t make a last minute addition to the rotation this spring, but perhaps he could strike a deal for Alcantara. <\/p>\n Alcantara would be joining one of the most prolific fanbases in the league. His comments toward Marlins fans are valid, but attendance is never a problem with the Friars.<\/a><\/p>\n The team set a new franchise record with over 3.4 million home fans in 2025, marking the fourth consecutive year the organization broke its attendance record. <\/p>\n The Padres averaged between 42,434\u201342,521 fans each game, which ranked second in the league behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. Moreover, the team recorded 72 home game sellouts at Petco Park. <\/p>\n Manny Machado has asked fans to make the playoff atmosphere<\/a> even more intense following his participation in the World Baseball Classic last month.<\/p>\n “I keep telling people, we gotta bring this to the playoffs. We gotta be able to let fans bring drum sets, whatever you can bring, guitars.
