The Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> pitching staff is already down multiple arms just one week into the regular season due to injury. One right-hander\u00a0the team is hoping to get back who can elevate the rotation is Trey\u00a0Yesavage.<\/p>\n

The 22\u2011year\u2011old was selected as Toronto\u2019s first-round pick less than two years ago in the 2024 MLB<\/a> Draft. Yet\u00a0Yesavage\u00a0experienced a historically fast rise to the big leagues in 2025, moving through four levels of the minors before making his MLB debut last September.<\/p>\n

He continued to shine the moment he arrived in Toronto, posting a 3.21 ERA across three regular season appearances before earning a spot in the postseason rotation and helping lead the Blue Jays to the World Series.<\/p>\n

However, last year was the heaviest workload of\u00a0Yesavage\u2019s\u00a0professional career, and as a result he developed a right shoulder impingement that lingered into spring training. The injury required a slow ramp up process that\u00a0ultimately led\u00a0to him being placed on the\u00a015-day\u00a0injured list prior to Opening Day.<\/p>\n

Still,\u00a0Yesavage\u00a0has continued throwing off the mound in simulated games with the goal of returning by May. And on Friday, the Blue Jays\u00a0decided\u00a0his\u00a0progress was encouraging enough to officially begin his rehab assignment earlier than expected.<\/p>\n

The Dunedin Blue Jays, Toronto\u2019s Single-A affiliate, announced that\u00a0Yesavage\u00a0would get the start\u00a0on Friday, marking the official beginning of his rehab stint.<\/p>\n

Yesavage\u00a0will now have\u00a030 days\u00a0to work his way back onto the\u00a0big-league\u00a0roster. Manager John Schneider spoke with reporters before Friday\u2019s game against the\u00a0Chicago\u00a0White Sox and explained the decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cKind of just talking with him, after his last bullpen, with how he felt and\u00a0what everything looked coming out, decided this was the best chance to kind of get his clock going,\u201d Schneider said\u00a0(h\/t Mitch Bannon of The Athletic<\/a>).<\/p>\n

With\u00a0Yesavage\u00a0making steady progress, it is a welcome sign for Toronto. Despite what will be a delayed start to his 2026 season, he\u00a0remains\u00a0a frontrunner for American League Rookie of the Year once he returns.<\/p>\n

With the Blue Jays rotation stretched thin, getting their most talented young\u00a0breakout star\u00a0back on schedule could\u00a0be huge in\u00a0stabilizing the staff.<\/p>\n
