DETROIT. (WILX) – The Tigers came into Friday\u2019s home opener riding a four-game losing streak but had no trouble ending the skid in their first game of the year at Comerica Park, beating St. Louis 4-0.<\/p>\n
The Tigers are now 15-3 in their last 18 home openers at Comerica Park.<\/p>\n
The announced attendance was 45,008, a sell-out crowd and the largest attendance for a Tigers\u2019 home opener since 2017 (45,013).<\/p>\n

Valdez held the Cardinals scoreless over six innings, striking out five while allowing just three hits and two walks.<\/p>\n After three-and-a-half scoreless innings to start the game, catcher Dillon Dingler put the Tigers on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run to left center field to give Detroit a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n Riley Greene added an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 3-0 Tigers lead. It was also Greene\u2019s 500th career hit.<\/p>\n The Tigers scored for the third straight inning in the bottom of the sixth when Javy Baez knocked in Parker Meadows on a base hit to make it 4-0.<\/p>\n Detroit improved to 3-4 on the year and hosts St. Louis for two more games on Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n Tigers manager A.J.
