{"id":662460,"date":"2026-04-04T08:46:26","date_gmt":"2026-04-04T08:46:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/662460\/"},"modified":"2026-04-04T08:46:26","modified_gmt":"2026-04-04T08:46:26","slug":"young-woo-shine-as-seattle-mariners-beat-angels-in-extras","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/662460\/","title":{"rendered":"Young, Woo shine as Seattle Mariners beat Angels in extras"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Second baseman Cole Young continued his strong to start to his second pro season with a go-ahead RBI triple in the top of the 10th inning, Josh Naylor added two crucial insurance runs with a single and the Seattle Mariners spoiled the Los Angeles Angels\u2019 home opener with a 3-1 win on Friday night in Anaheim, Calif.<\/p>\n<p>Seattle Mariners 3, Los Angeles Angels 1: <a href=\"https:\/\/seattlesports.sports.gracenote.com\/baseball\/mlb\/boxscore\/684540\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Box Score<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Young turned a 1-0 sinker just off the plate inside from Angels left-hander Brent Suter and sent a line drive into the right field corner over the outstretched glove of Jo Adell and nearly over the fence to plate Luke Raley.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>After an intentional walk to Julio Rodr\u00edguez and a wild pitch, Naylor lined two-run single to right field.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The Mariners improved to 4-4 on the season. The Angels dropped to 3-5.<\/p>\n<p>The triple extended Young\u2019s hitting streak to a career-high seven games. The 22-year-old is hitting .310 with an .885 OPS, one homer and five RBIs in eight games this season. He\u2019s also 5 for 12 against left-handed pitching.<\/p>\n<p>Naylor\u2019s hit was just his third this season. He was 2 for 31 at the plate prior to the at-bat.<\/p>\n<p>Pitchers Bryan Woo, Matt Brash, Andr\u00e9s Mu\u00f1oz and Gabe Speier held Angels batters to one hit. It was the first time in team history the Mariners held an opponent to one or fewer hits in an extra-innings games.<\/p>\n<p>Mu\u00f1oz (1-1 record) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the win. Speier pitched the 10th for his second career save.<\/p>\n<p>Woo didn\u2019t factor into the decision, but the right-hander spun a gem with seven shutout innings on just 84 pitches. He struck out six and allowed one walk and one hit.
