Seven runs in the first inning. Eleven batters to the plate.

A 454-foot Brandon Marsh bomb over the right-center field bullpen. A 460-foot Kyle Schwarber shot into the second deck. Bryce Harper going yard for the second straight game. Trea Turner collecting three hits in the first three innings. Aaron Nola throwing six and a third and striking out nine. Final score 10-1 and it was not that close.

After a week of outside noise about the offense, the Phillies left Coors Field looking like a team that was never all that worried in the first place.

Phillies ‘Get Right’ Against the Rockies…

Phillies First Inning

The first five Phillies batters reached base against Michael Lorenzen, a former Phillie making this slightly more satisfying. Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott both knocked in runs with Stott’s going for a two-run double.

Then Brandon Marsh stepped up with two on and turned on a Lorenzen sinker in on his hands and launched it 454 feet over the bullpen in right-center. The longest home run of his six-year career. He had not barreled a single ball in his seven previous hits this season and then he hit one an absolute mile. Trea Turner followed with an RBI single to score Realmuto and the Phillies had seven runs before the first inning was done.

Brandon Marsh RING IT

Harper and Turner Are Back

After a brutal start to the season both guys looked like themselves on Friday. Harper went 2-for-4 with a homer and an RBI double and saw 14 pitches in four at-bats, swinging only three times.

The chase rate that sat at 42.6 entering the day looked nothing like that on Friday. He was patient, he waited for his pitch, and when he got one middle-in he drove it into the bullpen. That is the Bryce Harper this lineup needs and back-to-back games with home runs is a genuinely encouraging sign.

Turner collected three hits in the first three innings using the whole field and got back to the swing that won him the batting title in 2025. He had been running into some bad luck early in the season and Friday was the reset game he needed.

Bryce Harper RING IT

Schwarber and Nola

Schwarber hit his third homer of the season, a 460-foot shot that topped even Marsh’s tape measure blast and landed well into the second deck at Coors Field. That is Schwarber being Schwarber and there is nothing more to say about it.

Nola gave the The Fightins six and a third innings with nine strikeouts. After Walker’s disaster against the Nationals and a bullpen that had been leaned on hard, a dominant Nola start was exactly what this team needed heading into a road series.

Kyle Schwarber RING IT

The Fightins batting average jumped from .220 to .238 after Friday’s game which is a reminder of how meaningless early season numbers actually are. Nothing like a ‘get right’ game against the Colorado Rockies for the top of the order.

4-3 and Colorado has two more games to give them.

Join The Chase

Like this:

Like Loading…

The Phillies went to Colorado on Friday and put on a clinic.
