{"id":662773,"date":"2026-04-04T13:43:22","date_gmt":"2026-04-04T13:43:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/662773\/"},"modified":"2026-04-04T13:43:22","modified_gmt":"2026-04-04T13:43:22","slug":"mets-carlos-mendoza-concerned-about-juan-sotos-early-exit-on-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/662773\/","title":{"rendered":"Mets&#8217; Carlos Mendoza concerned about Juan Soto&#8217;s early exit on Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Juan Soto\u2019s second season with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/mlb\/new-york-mets\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Mets<\/a> has gotten off to a stellar start, as he is hitting .355\/.412\/.516 with a home run and five RBIs to his name.<\/p>\n<p>But the high vibes surrounding the Dominican star would grind to a halt on Friday night, when Soto left the Mets\u2019 match against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/mlb\/san-francisco-giants\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Francisco Giants<\/a> in the top of the first after limping as he was rounding the bases.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Soto left game after running the bases in the first inning.<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TacSRqiPZe\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/TacSRqiPZe<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/29ga3coWOW\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/t.co\/29ga3coWOW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Underdog MLB (@UnderdogMLB) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UnderdogMLB\/status\/2040257082574700550?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">April 4, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It would initially be reported that Soto had left the match due to right calf tightness, but following the match, Mets\u2019 manager Carlos Mendoza had more to say about it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst to third, he felt something, and as he was standing at third base, he continued to get tight,\u201d Mendoza explained.<\/p>\n<p>Mendoza is concerned about Soto\u2019s injury<\/p>\n<p>Following the match, Mendoza told reporters that Soto is scheduled to undergo imaging on Saturday, which will hopefully provide more insight into what he suffered.<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t have much, other than what was announced, right calf tightness,\u201d Mendoza said. \u201cHe\u2019s going to get an imaging tomorrow, and then we\u2019ll see what we\u2019re dealing with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Carlos Mendoza on Juan Soto&#8217;s calf injury:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s obviously concern.&#8221;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iItZN7k4wy\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/iItZN7k4wy<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AQJlfiZ6zk\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/t.co\/AQJlfiZ6zk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Underdog MLB (@UnderdogMLB) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UnderdogMLB\/status\/2040302543880806905?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">April 4, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite not having more information on the Dominican star\u2019s injury, the Mets\u2019 manager is concerned about the region in which his star slugger was injured.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s obvious concern, anytime you send a player in for an MRI,\u201d Mendoza stated. \u201cIn those areas, the calf area, it could be tricky, but we just got to wait, but obviously concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Soto\u2019s early exit wouldn\u2019t stop New York from getting the victory over San Francisco, beating them 10-4, as Marcus Semien would finish the night going 3-5 with three RBIs.<\/p>\n<p>If the Dominican is to miss time, the Mets could look to use Tyrone Taylor, who came in for Soto on Friday night.
