{"id":663176,"date":"2026-04-04T18:12:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-04T18:12:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/663176\/"},"modified":"2026-04-04T18:12:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-04T18:12:17","slug":"padres-infielder-talks-facing-red-sox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/663176\/","title":{"rendered":"Padres Infielder Talks Facing Red Sox"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-0\" class=\"mt-[18px] md:mt-0 mb-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6j\">San Diego Padres first baseman Ty France discussed facing the Boston Red Sox, a team he is familiar with from his time with the Toronto Blue Jays. <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6m\">France kept things simple when discussing the American League East squad and its fans while saying Boston is his favorite road ballpark to play in.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6p\">\u201cBoston fans are mean,\u201d France said jokingly to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2026\/04\/03\/clubhouse-chatter-padres-talk-about-their-favorite-mlb-cities-to-visit\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego Union-Tribune.<\/a> \u201cIt\u2019s always fun playing there.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-3\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6s\">The Padres opened the series at Fenway Park on Friday and fell, 5-2, to the Red Sox. The lineup has remained a point of contention as the first five hitters combined for zero hits in the contest.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6v\">The Friars have scored three runs or fewer in six of their first seven games, but manager Craig Stammen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/mlb\/padres\/onsi\/san-diego-padres-news\/padres-craig-stammen-gets-brutally-honest-on-early-season-struggles\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">remains confident in the Padres lineup<\/a> as the team is now 2-5. <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-5\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6y\">\u201cOne is just trust themselves,\u201d Stammen said. \u201cTrust what they\u2019ve done in the past\u00a0\u2014 who they are as people and who they are as hitters. And I got complete confidence that they\u2019re gonna be just fine.\u201d <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"71\">On Saturday, Stammen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/mlb\/padres\/onsi\/san-diego-padres-news\/padres-lineup-vs-red-sox-jackson-merrill-out-as-sd-makes-massive-changes-to-order\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">decided to shake up the lineup and deploy some bench players<\/a> to keep things fresh. France is getting a start, batting seventh and playing first base.<\/p>\n<p>How Can Ty France Make Impact With Padres?    <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-8\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"77\">The Padres <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/mlb\/padres\/onsi\/san-diego-padres-news\/padres-hit-jackpot-with-under-the-radar-offseason-additions\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reunited with France this offseason because of his defense<\/a>. There was a ton of uncertainty surrounding the first base position given the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/mlb\/padres\/onsi\/san-diego-padres-news\/luis-arraez-says-padres-wanted-him-back-but-he-chose-giants-for-one-specific-reason\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">departure of Luis Arraez in free agency.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-9\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7a\">Gavin Sheets got starts at first, but he isn&#8217;t known for his defense. That left the Padres searching for a viable replacement.  <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-10\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7d\">Enter France.  <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-11\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7g\">\u201cTy\u2019s a Gold Glover, so we can put somebody there that\u2019s really comfortable with the position, has done it in the past and has had success with it in the past,\u201d Stammen said of France this spring. \u201cThen, also, he has the ability to come in late in the game, if we want somebody to pinch-hit and we feel like we\u2019ve got a good matchup, I know he\u2019ll put a good at-bat out there.\u201d <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-12\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7j\">Despite being a bench player, France is the best defensive first baseman on the team.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-13\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7m\">The Padres also added Miguel Andujar and Nick Castellanos this offseason, making them options at first. However, the veterans have little to no experience there.  <\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-14\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7p\">France got the start at first during the team&#8217;s first series of the year but hasn&#8217;t played since. He went 0-for-3 against Detroit Tigers left-handed pitcher Framber Valdez.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-15\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7s\">He&#8217;s getting another opportunity on Saturday in his favorite road ballpark.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-16\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7v\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/mlb\/padres\/onsi\/san-diego-padres-news\/surprise-padres-slugger-predicted-for-30-home-run-season-in-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sheets has mainly occupied first base<\/a> this year, but things could change as the season progresses.
