CARDBIZ: PITTSBURGH (April 4, 2026) The Pittsburgh Pirates\u2019 No. 1 prospect, infielder Konnor Griffin, made his MLB debut Friday night against the Baltimore Orioles. In his very first at-bat, the 19-year-old drove an RBI double off Kyle Bradish into the left-center gap and quickly scored on a single, sparking a 5-4 Pirates victory. Griffin finished the game 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout while handling all of his defensive chances flawlessly at shortstop.<\/p>\n

Griffin became the first teenager to make his debut for Pittsburgh since Aramis Ram\u00edrez in May 1998. Selected ninth overall in the 2024 MLB Draft out of Jackson Preparatory School in Mississippi, Griffin has rocketed through the minors and is currently ranked as the No. 1 prospect in baseball by both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline.<\/p>\n
\n During his first full professional minor-league season in 2025, Griffin tore through Low-A, High-A, and Double-A, slashing .333 with 23 doubles, 21 home runs, 94 RBI, and an eye-popping 65 stolen bases over 122 games. His elite five-tool production earned him Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year honors \u2014 making him just the fifth player in history (alongside Joe Mauer, Bobby Witt Jr., and Jackson Holliday) to win both the High School and Minor League POY awards from the publication.<\/p>\n

However, Griffin possesses the elite speed-power combination that translates to massive fantasy and hobby numbers. If he comes out of the gates swinging like Bobby Witt Jr. or Elly De La Cruz, these prices could actually become the new floor. Holding him is a bet on generational talent.<\/p>\n
If you\u2019re buying, proceed with caution. Purchasing a top prospect on the very day of his call-up means you\u2019re paying absolute peak-hype prices. If you want to invest in Griffin, target his lower-tier parallels (non-auto Chrome refractors or Bowman Draft Sapphire editions) rather than dropping $2,000+ on a high-end auto right now. What you\u2019re really hoping for is his first inevitable rookie slump \u2014 that\u2019s when panic sellers will give you a much better entry point. After last night, it\u2019s too late to pay a premium price.
