He signed for an over-slot $1.75 million.

After he transferred from UC San Diego to Baton Rouge in 2025, Eyanson showed an uptick in velocity, holding 93 mph and topping out at 97. But the primary focus of the pitch was to set up his bat-missing slider and curveball.

Once in pro ball, Eyanson has responded quickly to a velocity development program. In live batting practice sessions against Red Sox minor leaguers, he regularly sat 96-97 mph while touching 99.

Then came the Spring Breakout game against the Orioles, a 14-pitch showcase that screamed of a prospect leap. Eyanson surpassed 100 mph for the first time in his career, and his five four-seam fastballs averaged 99.2 mph.

He also showed off a splitter with armside fade. He used his fastball and splitter to set up a wipeout curveball that he used to strike out all three batters he faced.

“He’s very athletic, so he’s been able to make adaptations quickly. His training age is very young,” Double-A Portland pitching coach Juan Rivera said. “He’s just bought into everything—pitch design, velo, command work, what’s happening in (strength and conditioning), what’s happening in the training room.

“That kid checks every box in every department, and we’re seeing it.”

Even before the Breakout Game, Eyanson was the buzziest prospect in Red Sox camp this year. He seemed like a potential back-end starter coming out of LSU, but his stuff gains have already raised his profile.

Boston assigned him to High-A Greenville to start 2026, but his development atop a strong college track record suggests he could quickly reach the upper levels.

SOX YARNS

— The Blue Jays returned righthander Angel Bastardo—a Rule 5 draft pick in 2024, when he was recovering from Tommy John surgery—to the Red Sox at the start of April.

Hours before his professional unveiling at the Spring Breakout game, righthander Anthony Eyanson sounded like a kid holding…

[2276
5,2291,4,1586,3935
0":"post-663239","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-mlb-draft","8":"tag-baseball","9":"tag-major-league-baseball-draft","10":"tag-mlb","11":"tag-mlb-draft","12":"tag-organization-reports
["GET
