The Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>, hoping to make it back out of the American League after losing in Game 7 of the World Series in heartbreaking fashion to the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> last season, have started off the season on the right foot.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While they just lost a series to the Colorado Rockies<\/a>, which is far from ideal, they’re also off to a solid start, so there isn’t much to worry about just yet. The Blue Jays need to be better moving forward, but a strong start over a six-game stretch to begin the season isn’t anything to be upset about.<\/p>\n

Despite that reality, right-hander Kevin Gausman was a bit unlucky in his last start, and skipper John Schneider wanted to talk about that.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The veteran threw 6.0 innings, allowing zero earned runs and striking out 10. Unfortunately, however, he wasn’t able to get the win due to the Blue Jays’ offense not doing much in a 2-1 loss against the Rockies. According to Schneider, this has been an issue when he’s been on the mound in recent years.<\/p>\n

\u201cFeel like we\u2019ve done that to Kev for a while. When you get a starting performance like that, you want to win. There\u2019s going to be times where this happens. There\u2019s gonna be times where you break a game open,\u201d Schneider said of his team\u2019s effort on Wednesday, via The Athletic\u2019s Mitch Bannon.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for starting pitchers, there isn’t much they can do in terms of winning games. All they can do is go out there and throw the baseball at a high level.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If their offense comes through and does what’s needed, they’ll have a decent win-loss record. If not, situations like Wednesday will continue to come up for most starters, including Gausman, who posted a 3.59 ERA last season but only went 10-11.<\/p>\n
