The 27-year-old was set to return to the field after his brief stint on the 10-day injured list but he still hasn’t made his comeback.

What did Houston Astros manager say about Yordan Alvarez’s recovery?

Houston Astros manager Joe Espada recently shared a major update on Alvarez’s status. According to the Athletic’s Chandler Rome, the franchise is bringing in minor league pitchers to throw live batting practice to Alvarez. If he performs well against live pitching, then his return might be near.

That means that, once he’s ready, we’re not going to need a rehab assignment. That will be his way to check that box and be ready for games.

On Thursday, Alvarez hit against a pitching machine and the results were positive. Speaking about his progress, Espada said,

He’s getting really close. This is the best I’ve seen him and this is the best he’s felt. So, really good news.

The last season for Yordan Alvarez was strong as he played 147 games. During that stretch, he had a .308 batting average with 35 home runs, 86 RBIs, 69 walks and 88 runs scored alongside his name.

Yordan Alvarez on his injury struggles

So far in the 2025 season, Yordan Alvarez had played 29 games. He had a batting average of .210 with three home runs and 18 RBIs.

He spoke about his delayed return and said, “Obviously… it’s been a little bit frustrating being on the IL because of my hand. This is not a secret how difficult it is for a hitter to be dealing with hand pain. I’ve played hurt before, but obviously now with inflammation it’s a little bit different.”

This is something delicate. I could have returned before but as soon as we saw the hand and how it reacted because of the inflammation, that’s why it’s been a little bit more time than I anticipated.

Despite missing Alvarez, the Houston Astros have managed to win their last two games against the Athletics. They are currently second in the AL West behind Seattle Mariners, with a 30-25 record.

Houston Astros infielder Yordan Alvarez is still sidelined from the 2025 season as he is suffering from lingering…

[2389
42,5,139,54,3211,5918,17912,4,17911,17907,17910,17908,17909,17913
0":"post-66402","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-houston-astros","8":"tag-astros","9":"tag-baseball","10":"tag-houston","11":"tag-houston-astros","12":"tag-houstonastros","13":"tag-joe-espada","14":"tag-joe-espada-on-yordan-alvarez","15":"tag-mlb","16":"tag-when-will-yordan-alvarez-return-from-injury","17":"tag-yordan-alvarez-injury","18":"tag-yordan-alvarez-injury-concerns","19":"tag-yordan-alvarez-injury-news","20":"tag-yordan-alvarez-injury-update","21":"tag-yordan-alvarez-news
["GET
