Yesterday the Cleveland Guardians and Chicago Cubs played through a minor rain storm during the Guardians’ home opener.\u00a0<\/p>\n
That won\u2019t be happening today, as the Guardians\u2019 game against the Cubs has been postponed due to weather. They\u2019ll play a traditional doubleheader<\/a> starting at 1:10 p.m. ET.\u00a0<\/p>\n While the delay will likely cause the Guardians to lose some of the momentum they gained by winning yesterday\u2019s home opener, a day off means that relievers like Connor Brogdon and Cade Smith will get an extra day of rest <\/a>after pitching yesterday. Both teams will also have the added benefit of getting a 27th man.<\/p>\n Guardians-Cubs game tonight is postponed. <\/p>\n Traditional doubleheader set for Sunday starting at 1:10 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n \u2014 Tim Stebbins (@tim_stebbins) April 4, 2026<\/a>Guardians vs. Cubs rain delay – 4\/4: When will the teams make up the game?<\/p>\n The powers that be wasted no time calling the game, as there was never an announcement saying that the game was going to be delayed; just that it had been postponed.\u00a0<\/p>\n Both teams had already announced their lineup for the game as well. The biggest surprise in the Guardians\u2019 lineup was that Chase DeLauter had been moved down to the No. 5 spot in the lineup after hitting second in the first seven games of his career.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n Slade Cecconi would have been on the mound for the Guardians today and he\u2019ll get the start in Game 1 tomorrow. Parker Messick (Sunday\u2019s scheduled starter) will go in Game 2 after throwing six shutout innings in his first start of the year.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n Cecconi will go against Cubs starter Edward Cabrera; they have yet to announce a starter for the second game of the doubleheader.\u00a0<\/p>\n The postponement will also give the Cubs\u2019 bullpen a much-needed lift after it had to cover eight innings yesterday thanks to Cade Horton leaving after just 17 pitches due to right forearm discomfort.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n While the Guardians have done a good job of staggering everyone\u2019s playing time throughout the first week-and-a-half of the season, everyone\u2019s going to be called upon tomorrow in their attempt to cover (at least) 18 innings of baseball.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Guardians\u2019 first off-day of the season won\u2019t be until Thursday after a three-game series against the Royals, so it wouldn\u2019t be a surprise to see the Guardians make some kind of additional roster move on Monday if tomorrow\u2019s doubleheader becomes a slog.\u00a0<\/p>\n
