{"id":664156,"date":"2026-04-05T06:06:14","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T06:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/664156\/"},"modified":"2026-04-05T06:06:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T06:06:14","slug":"royals-earn-doubleheader-split-against-brewers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/664156\/","title":{"rendered":"Royals earn doubleheader split against Brewers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Salvador Perez\u2019s sixth-inning home run ignited the Kansas City Royals\u2019 offense in an 8-2 win against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers in game two of a doubleheader Saturday night at Kauffman Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>The Royals sent 12 batters to the plate in the decisive six-run sixth inning, nine of those with two outs. Perez hit a first-pitch curve ball 417 feet to center field for the go-ahead home run as the Royals took a 3-2 lead. After Jonathan India singled to right field, he was plated on Isaac Collins\u2019 RBI single for a 4-2 advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Kansas City poured it on as its lead grew to 6-2 on Kyle Isbel\u2019s RBI single and Maikel Garcia\u2019s RBI double. Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers\u2019 error on a Vinnie Pasquantino grounder gave the Royals a 7-2 lead when Isbel scored. A wild pitch from Brewers reliever Jared Koenig scored Garcia as Kansas City took an 8-2 lead.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Mears (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Royals after one inning of work. Eli Morgan pitched the final three innings to notch his first save.<\/p>\n<p>Brandon Sproat (0-1) was saddled with the loss as he pitched 3 2\/3 innings of relief, surrendering four hits, four runs, walked three and struck out four.<\/p>\n<p>The Royals took a 2-0 lead on Carter Jensen\u2019s one-out double down the right- field line that scored India and Perez in the bottom of the second inning.<\/p>\n<p>Milwaukee answered right back when David Hamilton led off the third inning with a single and was driven in by Brice Turang, who looped an RBI triple under the glove of a diving Collins in left field to cut the Kansas City lead to 2-1.<\/p>\n<p>One batter later, Garrett Mitchell blasted an RBI double to the right-field gap to score Turang and tie the game at 2-2.<\/p>\n<p>Garcia was 3-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI, India was 2-for-4 with two runs and Jensen was 2-for-3 with a run, a double, two RBI and a walk. Kansas City held a 10-5 edge in hits.<\/p>\n<p>Kansas City starting pitcher Seth Lugo labored through 103 pitches in five innings as he surrendered four hits, gave up two runs, walked two and struck out seven. Brewers starting pitcher Logan Henderson lasted two innings, yielding three hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.<\/p>\n<p>III<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell doubled, homered, and racked up five RBI for the Brewers in a 5-2 win against the Royals in Game 1 of the doubleheader Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Luis Rengifo was 2-for-5 with two doubles and a run, and Christian Yelich was 2-for-5 with two runs for the Brewers. Jac Caglianone was 2-for-3 with a walk, and Lane Thomas and Bobby Witt Jr. each had an RBI for the Royals.<\/p>\n<p>Milwaukee starting pitcher Chad Patrick (1-0) picked up the win as he went five innings, gave up four hits, walked three, and struck out three. Luinder Avila (0-1) took the loss for the Royals, as he only lasted three innings, surrendered eight hits, five runs, walked three, and struck out four.<\/p>\n<p>Trevor Megill threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn his second save of the season for Milwaukee which won its third straight game.<\/p>\n<p>The Brewers jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Mitchell drove a high fast ball to the wall in right center field that plated Rengifo and Yelich in the first inning. In his next at-bat, Mitchell launched Avila\u2019s hanging curveball deep over the right field fence for a three-run home run, as Milwaukee extended its lead to 5-0 in the top of the third.<\/p>\n<p>Pasquantino led off the sixth inning with a single and advanced to scoring position on a wild pitch by Milwaukee reliever Aaron Ashby. After a Perez groundout, Jac Caglianone\u2019s infield single placed runners on the corners for the Royals with one out.<\/p>\n<p>But Ashby struck out both Starling Marte and Isaac Collins to end the Royals\u2019 threat.<\/p>\n<p>In the bottom of the seventh, Kansas City finally got on the board when pinch-hitter Thomas lined an RBI double into the left-field corner that scored Nick Loftin as the Royals cut their deficit to 5-1. Garcia\u2019s groundout to first moved Thomas to third.
