KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Aaron Ashby entered Saturday\u2019s game in the sixth inning for a moment that went unnoticed by most fans and media around the country, but it was a special day for the 27-year-old lefthander.<\/p>\n
Ashby is a Park Hill High School graduate who grew up rooting for the Royals.<\/p>\n
\u201cWatched quite a few baseball games here \u2014 especially in \u201915,\u201d Ashby said.<\/p>\n
His father, Curtis Ashby, confirmed his son\u2019s allegiance.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh yes, he was always a Royals fan,\u201d Curtis Ashby said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd so to actually be on the field and playing is really cool,\u201d Aaron Ashby said.<\/p>\n
Things got exciting for the Ashby family when Aaron\u2019s favorite player came to the plate.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m honestly a huge fan of Salvy,\u201d Aaron Ashby said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was awesome \u2014 nerve-racking but awesome,\u201d Curtis Ashby said.<\/p>\n
Aaron\u2019s stepmother, Amy Ashby, shared the excitement.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut to see two of my favorite players out there, with Aaron pitching and Salvy batting \u2014 very exciting,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Aaron has pitched in 10 postseason games and earned a reputation for clutch performances, but facing Salvador Perez was a special moment.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s weird facing that guy, because I watched him all of my high school, college, that was one of my favorite players growing up in Kansas City,\u201d Aaron Ashby said.<\/p>\n
With his family cheering him on, Aaron got Perez to bounce out.<\/p>\n
\u201cI loved watching him pitch against Salvy. I\u2019m a huge Royals fan, so it was kind of tough,\u201d Amy Ashby said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s awesome to be able to play in front of them and have them cheer me on,\u201d Aaron Ashby said.<\/p>\n
The Royals and Brewers split Saturday\u2019s doubleheader. They play their series finale Sunday at 1:10 p.m. <\/p>\n
