The Boston Red Sox<\/a> traded James Tibbs III for half a season of Dustin May.<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> will be the team reaping all the rewards of that deal whenever they decide to call-up the red hot Tibbs from Triple-A Oklahoma City.<\/p>\n

Right now, Tibbs is absolutely begging for a promotion.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, he hit three home runs out of a 4-for-4 day.<\/p>\n

He’s now got an OPS of nearly 2.000.<\/p>\n

Tibbs has has seven home runs this season in just 35 at bats. That’s one home run every five at bats.<\/p>\n

He’s been a quality minor league hitter before this, but he’s never gone on a stretch like this. To be fair, few hitters in baseball history have.<\/p>\n

May, the guy the Red Sox got for Tibbs, isn’t even in Boston anymore. He now pitches for the St. Louis Cardinals<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It’s another example of the Dodgers finding a way to get richer, even in what was likely viewed at the time as a subtle deal.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox know they have a crowded outfield, and maybe it would’ve been tough to find a place to play Tibbs. But it’s certainly looking like they didn’t maximize his value.<\/p>\n
