The New York Mets<\/a> have made it somewhat of a habit to sign former cross-town rival players from the Yankees. Do they have another notable MLB<\/a> free agency signing in store for another ex-New York Yankee?<\/p>\n

With the MLB season fully underway, injury designations are pouring in left and right, and now is a good time to think about adding depth from the external market.<\/p>\n

In a recent predictions piece, FanSided\u2019s Christopher Kline predicts the Mets will sign DJ LeMahieu.<\/p>\n

Kline believes that LeMahieu still has a little bit left in the tank to make a slight impact:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Yankees DFA\u2019d DJ LeMahieu last winter after seven years. He\u2019s 37 years old, but he\u2019s also a three-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner with serious pedigree. As a depth piece, nothing more and nothing less, LeMahieu is still worth a look. No team scoops up former Yankees quite so frequently as the crosstown Mets, who almost make it a point of pride.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mets lack some infield depth, which makes LeMahieu a possibility, but it\u2019s important to note his offensive stats have been very poor the last few seasons.<\/p>\n

In 2025, LeMahieu hit .266 over 128 at-bats with 12 RBI and an OPS+ of 91. In 2024, he appeared in just 67 games and posted a brutal .204 average with an OPS+ of 52.<\/p>\n

The New York Mets are currently out west, taking on the San Francisco Giants<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Friday, a scary incident took place with Juan Soto and his calf. An MRI revealed a minor sprain of the calf, and the Mets will further assess Soto\u2019s availability in the coming days.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the Mets announced the signing of Luke Jackson on a minor-league deal.<\/p>\n

Expect more moves in the coming days from teams across the league.<\/p>\n
