The Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> have gotten off to a hot start in the 2026 campaign, which isn\u2019t much of a surprise to anyone who keeps tabs on the game of baseball. With a 6-2 record through their first eight games, the Dodgers have proven that they mean business when it comes to their quest to win their third straight World Series championship.<\/p>\n After another busy offseason, Los Angeles\u2019 roster is loaded with depth<\/a> across the board. One of the more overlooked moves the team made during the winter saw them sign former Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> top prospect Keston Hiura<\/a>. However, it looks like his time with the team has come to an end before he could even suit up for L.A. in a regular-season game.<\/p>\n Dodgers Release Veteran Infielder Keston Hiura<\/p>\n Hiura initially broke into the majors back in 2019 with the Brewers, and he seemed set for stardom. During a brief 84-game stint with Milwaukee, Hiura hit .303 with 19 home runs and 49 RBIs, while also posting a sublime .938 OPS. However, he\u2019s never come remotely close to matching those numbers since then.<\/p>\n The problem for Hiura has been his inability to consistently get on base. Hiura\u2019s highest batting average since his rookie season came in at .226 in 2022, which simply isn\u2019t going to cut it. Hiura can hit for power, but it\u2019s telling that he was unable to carve out a role for himself with both the Los Angeles Angels<\/a> and Colorado Rockies before finding his way to the Dodgers.<\/p>\n It never hurts to take a flier on a guy like Hiura, but the odds of him making L.A.\u2019s Opening Day roster were always low. It\u2019s always important to have depth across the board, but even then, Los Angeles is one of the deepest teams in the league. By releasing Hiura, L.A.\u2019s front office is giving him a shot to latch on with another squad that may legitimately need him to help out their major-league squad at some point later in this season.<\/p>\n It\u2019s a shame Hiura didn\u2019t pan out for the Dodgers, but that\u2019s how the business of baseball goes sometimes. Truth be told, his departure likely won\u2019t hurt the team too much from a talent standpoint, as Freddie Freeman is entrenched as the team\u2019s starting first baseman for the time being.
