The NHL\u2019s<\/a> Buffalo Sabres<\/a> celebrated the end of a 14-year postseason drought on Saturday, April 4.<\/p>\n

The Sabres are chasing an Atlantic Division title as the regular season winds down. But a Detroit Red Wings loss clinched Buffalo a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 2010-11.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Buffalo\u2019s achievement leaves the NFL\u2019s<\/a> New York Jets<\/a> all alone atop the playoff drought list with a 15-year playoff drought.<\/p>\n

Consequently, ESPN\u2019s Rich Cimini noted the Jets\u2019 predicament<\/a> in a story Saturday.<\/p>\n

The @BuffaloSabres<\/a> just clinched a playoff berth, ending their 14-year drought. That means \u2026 <\/p>\n

The #Jets<\/a> (15 years) stand alone \u2014 longest active drought in North American sports.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo longer are they linked in infamy, as the Sabres clinched a playoff berth Saturday to snap their 14-year postseason drought \u2014 the longest in NHL history \u2014 with six games to spare,\u201d Cimini wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Jets are still going, at 15 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the Sabres clinched their berth, Sports Illustrated updated<\/a> the list of North American pro sports\u2019 longest playoff droughts.<\/p>\n

Consequently, here is the list:<\/p>\n

New York Jets, NFL, 15 years<\/p>\n

Los Angeles Angels, MLB, 11 years<\/p>\n

Pittsburgh Pirates, MLB, 10 years<\/p>\n

Charlotte Hornets, NBA, 9 years<\/p>\n

Detroit Red Wings, NHL, 9 years<\/p>\n

Atlanta Falcons, NFL, 8 years<\/p>\n

Anaheim Ducks, NHL, 7 years<\/p>\n

Colorado Rockies, MLB, 7 years<\/p>\n

According to Cimini, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, who went 3-14 in his first year leading New York, committed to getting the team back into championship contention.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to leave a legacy, I do,\u201d Glenn said in his introductory press conference. \u201cWhen I\u2019m gone, man, I\u2019m looking at this team being a team that consistently puts themselves in a place to win.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s not a day, there\u2019s not an hour, there\u2019s not a minute I don\u2019t think about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the bright side, the Jets still have a long way to go to match the NFL record for playoff futility.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, that distinction belongs to the Chicago\/St. Louis Cardinals, who went 25 seasons (1949-74) without making the postseason.<\/p>\n

Also, in other sports, the Washington Nationals\/Montreal Expos didn\u2019t make the MLB playoffs for 29 straight years (1982-2011). Finally in the NBA, the Sacramento Kings snapped a 16-year drought by making the postseason in 2022.<\/p>\n
