The Houston Astros placed ace right-hander Hunter Brown on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a right shoulder strain.<\/p>\n
The move was retroactive to Thursday.<\/p>\n
Brown finished third in American \u200bLeague Cy Young Award balloting last season. He is \u200c1-0 with an 0.84 ERA in two starts this season, striking out 17 in just 10 1\/3 innings.<\/p>\n
Brown, 27, last pitched Tuesday when he defeated the Boston Red Sox. He gave up one run and one hit and \u200cstruck \u200bout eight against two walks in six \u2060innings.<\/p>\n
Astros manager Joe Espada told \u2060reporters that Brown\u2019s shoulder \u201cdidn\u2019t feel right\u201d during a throwing session on Friday. He said Brown underwent an MRI exam in Sacramento and then returned to Houston.<\/p>\n
\u201cHopefully, this doesn\u2019t keep him out \u200bfor a long time,\u201d Espada said prior to Sunday\u2019s game against the Athletics.<\/p>\n
This is the first IL stint in the \u2060majors for Brown, who had been slated \u2060to start Monday\u2019s road game against the Colorado \u200bRockies.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s disappointed,\u201d Espada said. \u201cNever been injured and this is new for all \u200bof us, so we\u2019ll see. He didn\u2019t sound concerned, \u200cwhich is good. But also, it\u2019s new, right? So we\u2019re going to let the doctors evaluate him and then we\u2019ll see where we go from there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Houston doesn\u2019t have a starter listed for any \u2060of the three upcoming games with the Rockies.<\/p>\n
Brown made the AL All-Star team for the first time last season when he went 12-9 with \u2060a 2.43 ERA \u200cin 31 starts. He struck out a career-high \u2060206 and posted a stellar 1.03 WHIP.<\/p>\n
He is \u200b37-31 \u200cwith a 3.44 ERA in 102 appearances (94 starts) \u200bsince reaching the \u2060majors in 2022.<\/p>\n
The Astros promoted right-hander Christian Roa from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move. He had a 6.75 ERA in two relief appearances for Houston earlier this season.<\/p>\n
The 27-year-old pitched one scoreless inning of relief in his lone outing for Sugar Land this \u200bseason.<\/p>\n
