The first ten games of the Giants’ 2026 season have been … less than ideal.<\/p>\n
After Sunday’s 5-2 loss to the New York Mets<\/a>, San Francisco fell to 3-7 — its worst start since 2019.<\/p>\n But when it comes to the Giants’ dismal minus-25 run differential, as pointed out by Josh Dubow of the Associated Press<\/a>, you’ll have to go back much farther: 1896. That year, the New York Giants started 1-9 and were outscored 94-45, good for a horrid minus-49 run differential.<\/p>\n The Giants have been outscored by 25 runs over the 1st 10 games. That’s the worst mark thru 10 games for the franchise since they were -49 in 1896<\/p>\n \u2014 Josh Dubow (@JoshDubowAP) April 5, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n Needless to say, the Giants’ pitching that year wasn’t great, as they allowed six or more runs in nine of those first 10 games, including four with at least 12.<\/p>\n If there’s any solace, that team finished with a not-awful 64-67 record<\/a> and a positive run differential, somehow.<\/p>\n The 2026 Giants, on the other hand, have been limited largely by their hitting. San Francisco’s 26 runs scored is tied for their fifth-lowest total through ten games in franchise history. Two of those four worse seasons came during the dead-ball era, when offense was down significantly throughout MLB.<\/p>\n Anyways, it’s safe to say that’s not good company for San Francisco.
