He\u2019s not afraid,\u201d Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. \u201cYou know, he\u2019s got his quirky personality, but I look at it as a real positive. He\u2019s a beautiful spirit, like who he is as a person is really beautiful, and the way he competes in the big situation is special.\u201d<\/p>\n
That quirky spirit can be seen in Misiorowski\u2019s remembrance of the Brewers\u2019 game last year against the Mets. He had allowed two runs on three hits in three starts and would eventually be added to the All-Star Game roster.<\/p>\n
But New York scored five times against Misiorowski, who was pulled in the fourth inning.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think my \u2018welcome to big leagues\u2019 moment was going to New York, and it was probably one of the first starts that I didn\u2019t have go my way,\u201d he recalled. \u201cAnd, (Juan) Soto really welcomed me to the show. So it was a good time, going to New York and getting a little bit in your face. But it\u2019s still good.\u201d<\/p>\n
Thing is, the Mets hit two homers off Misiorowski that day, but Soto was hitless in two at-bats against him.<\/p>\n
Grain Valley support<\/p>\n
While Misiorowski was disappointed his spot in the rotation won\u2019t come up this weekend against the Royals, he was able to skip the team hotel and sleep in his own bed.<\/p>\n
Misiorowski said he feels the love in Grain Valley, which is 20 miles east of Kansas City and has a population of less than 20,000.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really cool going in there, and especially going to card shops down there, and everyone\u2019s like, \u2018Holy cow, like, you\u2019re actually here,\u2019\u201d he said with a smile. \u201c\u2019Why are you still here?\u2019 It\u2019s like, \u2018This is where my friends and family are.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s crazy going back into my hometown and doing a camp or something. And having little kids being like, \u2018I want to be like you.\u2019 Yeah, it\u2019s unreal. So it\u2019s cool.\u201d<\/p>\n
But not everyone treats Misiorowski like a hometown hero. And he loves it.<\/p>\n
Despite his star power, Misiorowski\u2019s buddies still give him a hard time. That\u2019s how friends are. They like Misiorowski for who he is, not because he\u2019s an MLB star.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey give me a lot of crap about it,\u201d Misiorowski said of his friends. \u201cYou know, it\u2019s \u2018big-time\u2019 now, all stuff like that. They\u2019re supporting me all the time, and I\u2019ll get phone calls and stuff, and got to see them (Thursday) night.
