{"id":665754,"date":"2026-04-06T03:29:16","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T03:29:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/665754\/"},"modified":"2026-04-06T03:29:16","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T03:29:16","slug":"kodai-senga-outstanding-for-mets-in-rare-outing-on-regular-rest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/665754\/","title":{"rendered":"Kodai Senga &#8216;outstanding&#8217; for Mets in rare outing on regular rest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN FRANCISCO \u2014 Kodai Senga, on normal rest, didn\u2019t show signs of fatigue Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The Mets right-hander was strong into the sixth inning, positioning his team to<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/05\/sports\/mets-offense-wakes-up-late-to-rally-by-giants-for-third-straight-win\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> rally for a 5-2 victory over the Giants <\/a>at Oracle Park. <\/p>\n<p>It was only the fifth time in his career that Senga pitched on the fifth day following a start. He\u2019s usually been afforded at least the sixth day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever the pitching schedule is, whether it\u2019s regular rest or an extra day, as long as I know ahead of time and I am able to live on that schedule, then it\u2019s no problem,\u201d Senga said through an interpreter.<\/p>\n<p>If the Mets rotation remains in order, Senga\u2019s next turn will be Saturday against the Athletics at Citi Field. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>On this day, Senga allowed two earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over 5 \u00b2\/\u2083 innings. He allowed two bloop singles in the sixth that factored into the two runs scored against him. Matt Chapman\u2019s loud double was the other hit in the inning.<\/p>\n<p>It was a continuation of what the Mets saw from Senga in his season debut against the Cardinals on Tuesday, when he struck out nine over six innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDelivering insights on all things Amazin\u2019s\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSign up for Inside the Mets by Mike Puma, exclusively on Sports+\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThank you\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you look at [Sunday\u2019s] outing, only two hard-hit balls,\u201d manager Carlos Mendoza said. \u201cOther than that, he pretty much dominated that lineup. The fastball, the cutter was a good pitch, the forkball to put hitters away and to steal strikes when he needed to. I think overall, he was outstanding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It follows a second-half meltdown last season that concluded with Senga agreeing to a minor league assignment. He spent September pitching for Triple-A Syracuse in an attempt to get on track mechanically.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe biggest thing [Sunday] was I was able to throw healthily, and I was able to get out of it healthy,\u201d Senga said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>He received help defensively, particularly from Jared Young, who fielded Jerar Encarnacion\u2019s shot off the left field fence in the fifth inning and threw out Encarnacion attempting to reach second.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was amazing,\u201d Senga said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"SAN FRANCISCO \u2014 Kodai Senga, on normal rest, didn\u2019t show signs of fatigue Sunday.
