Tanner Murray, 26, a San Lorenzo Valley High and UC Davis alum, made his MLB debut with the Chicago White Sox on Easter Sunday and turned in some slick defense while playing shortstop to help the host White Sox shut out Toronto 3-0 at Rate Field.<\/p>\n

After the game, Murray told reporters that he \u201ccouldn\u2019t ask for anything better.\u201d<\/p>\n

He was promoted after the White Sox placed outfielder Everson Pereira on the 10-day IL with an ankle sprain.<\/p>\n

Murray turned in a run-saving web gem to help the White Sox (4-5 overall) escape a bases-loaded jam in the top of the third inning. With two outs, he ranged to his left to field a ground ball from Addison Barger, spun to his left and made an off-balance throw while falling backward to first baseman Munetaka Murakami to end the Blue Jays\u2019 scoring threat.<\/p>\n

\u201cI almost fell over when I got it,\u201d Murray told the Chicago Tribune. \u201cI turned around and saw hundreds of faces and I was like, \u2018(first baseman Murakami\u2019s) got me somewhere over there.\u2019 I threw it to him, he made the play and we got out of the inning.\u201d<\/p>\n

The majority of the 22,326 fans cheered after Murakami snared the ball out of the dirt with a back-handed swipe. White Sox starting pitcher Davis Martin was also a fan. He pumped his fist and smacked his glove while screaming, \u201cLet\u2019s go! Let\u2019s go!\u201d<\/p>\n

In a postgame on-field interview with Chicago Sports Network, White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas was elated for Murray.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was sick, that was sick,\u201d the Cuban said. \u201cStopped that scored run scored that was out there and made that sick play. That was unbelievable. I\u2019m so happy for him. His first day out here, and he\u2019s got good luck. He bring us the win, so, hopefully, he\u2019ll be doing more of that here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray also, with the help of second baseman Chase Meidroth and Murakami, turned a double play on a ground ball hit by Nathan Lukes in the fifth.<\/p>\n

White Sox manager Will Venable said in his post-game presser: \u201cWe know he\u2019s a plus defender out there. It\u2019s one of the reasons he\u2019s here. Really nice job and a great day for Tanner.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray batted seventh in the order and went 0-for-2 batting. He popped out to catcher Brandon Valenzuela in foul territory to lead off the second inning, and popped out to first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to end the third inning. He was replaced by Colson Montgomery in the bottom of the fifth.<\/p>\n

Murray, acquired in a trade with Tampa Bay in November,\u00a0started the season in Triple-A Charlotte Knights. A lifetime .275 hitter, Murray was batting .304 (7 for 23) with a double, two home runs, seven RBI, and six runs scored through six games with the Knights.<\/p>\n

The White Sox begin a three-game series against the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Monday.<\/p>\n
